Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. THE PREDICTOR has only had the two runs to date, finishing fifth on debut over 920M and then showing the expected improvement to win by a length next time out over five furlongs, when returning from a 14-week rest. He showed plenty of toe that day and notwithstanding a wideish draw eight, he may well be good enough to chalk up a quick double.

GREEK TYCOON has consistent formlines to his name, winning over 1180M three runs back and then finishing second in his penultimate start over six furlongs and finally third last time out over the same sprint trip, just a head behind the winner. The gelding overraced in the early stages, but still managed to stay on well in the dash down to the wire. He is drawn one outside the top choice and should turn in another honest performance today. HOPE UNO is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she has finished second in her last two starts, the latest over seven furlongs, just a head back from the victor. She struck the front at the 200M mark in that contest, only to be collared in the shadow of the post. She in turn is drawn one outside the latter, but should still be included in all bets.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, TAKISSACOD is a 6yr old mare taking on males, but she won her penultimate run over seven furlongs before disappointing to finish seventh next time out over six furlongs, 9.2L adrift of the winner, when returning from a lengthy 41-week spell and was immediately moved to a new yard. She has had two barrier trials and it should be noted that the form of that last race has stood up well with no less than four runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She has her first run for her new trainer and gets a handy draw three. If fully settled into her new surroundings, she should give a good account of herself here.

DON LUIGI followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a fifth-place finish next time out over six furlongs, just over four lengths back from the winner, but that was at a stronger centre. He is drawn wide in gate ten, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

WHO BUT ROO also won his penultimate run, but in his case, over five furlongs and then finished seventh over the same sprint trip next time out, just under eight lengths off the winner. He returns from a 28-week break, but has finished second in both of his barrier trials to prove his fitness. He jumps from a kinder draw five and will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

Race 7

MANDERBOSS has consistent formlines to his credit and was slow away and held up at the top of the home straight when finishing fourth last out over 1500M, one and a half lengths behind the winner at a stronger centre, so that effort was encouraging. From his draw five, he is likely to turn in another honest performance today.

THIS’LLBETHEONE has cracked pole position and had to be eased off the heels of other runners at the 1000M mark when over racing and then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight when ending up in sixth place in his latest outing over a mile, four and a half lengths behind the winner and the form of that race has been franked.

TROOPER KNUCKLE has won four of his last five runs and finished second in the other, so clearly has some ability. He raced just behind the leader and had to be held up between the 400M and 300M mark, before being bumped at the 75M pole, but still managed to finish off his race well to made that victory that much more impressive. He jumps from a useful draw four and his fifth career win should not be discounted.

Race 8

A 3yr old fillies and a 5yr old mare could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s best bet HOWLING VICTORY is taken to lead the field home. She goes for her hat-trick after victories over seven furlongs and the latest over a mile by just over one and a half lengths. She went from gun to tape that day and from a cosy draw five, she could prove hard to reel in over the closing stages of the race. LADY

TABLOID is the stable companion to the top choice and is drawn one inside the top pick. She has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three runs, the latest when second over seven furlongs, 0.8L adrift of the victor, but she raced three wide without cover in that event yet still managed to battle all the way down to the line. She attracted plenty of betting support that day and from a useful draw four, she will be hoping to make amends today and makes a solid back-up for the yard.

THE HERALD put six and a half lengths between himself and the opposition when winning his last start over a mile. He kicked clear of the field on entering the home straight and the race was over as a contest from that point. The gelding is drawn one inside the latter and will get 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.
