Race 5

FAKHRA is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but her last four runs have yielded two-thirds and two seconds, the latest over 1400M, just a head behind the winner, when returning from a 16-week rest. She overraced in the early stages and had to be eased off the heels of another runner at the 900M mark, before coming five wide into the home straight, before finishing off her race strongly. She will have to negotiate a wide draw twelve, but she should be doing her best work late.

CEREMONIOUS is the stable companion of the top choice and stayed on well when finishing fifth last time out over 1500M, just over three and a half lengths back from the winner. He returns from an 18-week break, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials. The gelding on the other hand has a handy draw two and will have 4kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and makes a solid back-up for the powerful Chris Waller yard.

WEBEJAMIN is a 3-year-old filly who has only had two runs to date, finishing second on debut over 1000M and then showing the expected improvement to again finish runner-up next time out over 1300, but beaten just a short-head, despite coming the widest of them all into the home straight. The form of that race has been franked and from her useful gate four, she should be included in all bets. There is an unraced runner in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether her connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for her should be respected.

Race 6

TRISKELION finished tenth last time out over 1100M, just under five lengths off the winner and was immediately moved to the Chris Waller yard and rested for 19 weeks. He returns here after having had two barrier trials and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here to give the stable the first two winner in the day’s Jackpot.

CHARTWELL has cracked pole position and was hampered at the 250M mark, but still managed to battle all the way down to the wire to end up in fifth place last time out over 1250M, 4.8L back from the winner. The gelding will have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice and should be right up there when they hit the line.

CAPITAL MAC has only had two runs to date, finishing sixth on debut over 1100M and then showing the expected improvement to win next time out over 1200M, albeit by just a short-head. The gelding returns from a 65-week spell, and has his first run for his new stable, this after three barrier trials and whilst facing a wide draw nine, the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, NIGHTINGALE followed up her penultimate run victory over 1200M with a fourth-place finish next time out over 1000M, just under three lengths back from the winner, when showing plenty of toe. She returns from a 13-week rest, but has had two barrier trials, finishing third in the first and winning the latest. She faces a wide draw ten, but she is a speedy sort who should be able to work her way across without using up too much gas. The filly gets the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd and could prove hard to reel in over the closing stages.

SETOMBE is the stable companion of the top choice and won over 1100M three runs back, finished second in her penultimate start over the same sprint trip and then seventh in her latest outing over 1300M, just over seven lengths adrift of the victor, but it should be noted that she did not act in the heavy going that day, so that effort is best ignored. She does have to deal with a wide gate eleven, but she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here and makes a solid back-up for the yard.

TO THE EXTREME is another who won over 1100M three runs back, finished seventh in her penultimate start over the same 1100M and then third in her latest outing over 1000M, 0.8L behind the winner, when returning from a 24-week break. She was hampered shortly after the start in that event, but finished off her race well and from a wide draw thirteen, she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 8

This looks to be a tricky race to end off the Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. IRISH BLISS does however have consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1600M with a second-place finish next time out over 1700M, just a length back from the winner. He raced just behind the leaders that day and although very green over the last 200m of the race, he went on to score easing up at the wire. The gelding jumps from a cosy gate four and will be looking to chalk up a quick double.

PLUCKTEN lost a length at the start, but finished well from some way back to end up in second spot last time out over 1300m, beaten just a head. His connections did lodge an objection against the winner after that contest, but this was overruled, and the original result was allowed to stand. The gelding faces a wide draw eleven, but on the plus side, he will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

VEGAS DREAM is seldom far off the action and tried to go from jump to wire when finishing fourth last time out over 1400M, just under two and a half lengths back from the victor and from draw seven, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.
