Race 5

DARK GLITTER followed up her penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a tenth-place finish next time out over seven furlongs, four lengths back from the winner, but she did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight at the 250M mark. She is drawn in gate six and will have 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice and will be hoping to get back to winning ways here.

JUSTELA had her consistency rewarded with a half-length victory last time out over seven furlongs, despite being slow away, when returning from a 12-week rest. She powered home that day and from a wide draw nine, she should be doing her best work late.

THE CRIMSON IDOL on the other hand has cracked pole position and won over 1300M three runs back, finished third in her penultimate start over the same c&d and then second in her latest outing over seven furlongs, 0.8L behind the winner. She raced just behind the leaders and then finished off her race well, only to just fail to reel in the frontrunners.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, KINGDOM OF LOGRES has consistent formlines to his name and tried to go from jump to wire before ending up in fourth place last time out over nine furlongs, just over one length behind the winner. The gelding has a handy draw four and will be having his peak run since returning from a 38-week spell and looks to be the one to side with in this line-up.

BY NINE did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight when finishing fourth in his latest outing over a mile, 3.3L back from the winner. The gelding is drawn one outside the top pick and gets the service of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid his cause.

FINAL RESET is the stable companion of the top choice who missed out on his hat-trick after victories over ten furlongs and a mile when finishing third last time out over nine furlongs, 0.7L behind the winner. he battled all the way down to the wire that day and from gate seven and having his peak run after returning from a 20-week rest, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today and he makes a solid back-up for the yard.

Race 7

There are three unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first-time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, ENHANCE may well prove to be the best. The colt has only had two runs to date and finished fourth last time out over 1100M, 5.7L adrift of the victor, but he jumped awkwardly in that event, bumping another runner. He recovered quickly to race just off the pace and then stayed on well over the closing stages. The form of that race has been franked and whilst drawn wide in gate fourteen, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

BATTLE OF VIENNA came four wide into the home straight, but stayed on well to finish third last time out over six furlongs, four and a half lengths back from the victor. The gelding returns from a 26-week spell, but has had two barrier trials, finishing fourth in the first and second in the latest. He is drawn even wider in gate sixteen, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

SCISSOR ME TIMBERS finished second on debut over five furlongs and then third in his next outing over the same sprint trip, just a length off the winner, but he hung in bumping another runner at the 600M, so he had his excuse. The gelding has his first run after a 19-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust and does have a wide gate nine to deal with, but the booking of top jockey Tommy Berry catches the eye.

Race 8

BOJANGLES missed out on his hat-trick after two victories over 1100M when finishing sixth last time out when stepping up to six furlongs, 2.3L behind the winner, but he raced wide in the early stages, which did his cause no good. The gelding has his first run after a 16-week rest, but has had the benefit of a barrier trial and from a handy gate three, he should appreciate the drop to what appears to be a more suitable trip and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

MR ROCK IT finished second in his last two runs, the latest over five furlongs, just a neck back from the winner, but it should be noted that he had to be held up approaching the home turn in that event, before finishing off his race strongly. The gelding starts from gate six and will be hoping to go one better today.

XTRA GEAR is a 5-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she in turn has finished third in her last two runs, the latest over five furlongs, just under one and a half lengths behind the winner. She attempted to go from gun to tape that day and from her wide draw ten, she seems likely to try the same frontrunning tactics today to be involved in the finish.
