Race 4

SUPER STORY has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when fifth over 1300M, three lengths behind the winner and if he has continued down the same path of improvement, he looks to be the one to side with here. He faces a wide draw nine, but on the plus side he will get 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

A 4-year-old and a 3-year-old filly could chase him home, with the slight preference going to SO ROSIE who is another who has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when third over six furlongs, just a length back from the victor. She is drawn even wider in gate eleven, but she should be doing her best work late and will have 2kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.

AUTOFOCUS raced wide without cover throughout when finishing fourth on debut over six furlongs, just over three lengths off the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected and from a handy gate two, she should be included in all bets.

Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. TURNAWAY put his disappointing penultimate start over a mile behind him when winning next time out over seven furlongs, albeit by just a short-head. He struck the front at the 100M mark that day and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. From his useful draw four, he could well chalk up a quick double.

INTERVENTIONIST was bumped at the start, finding himself towards the back of the field and never really got into the race from that point, finishing tenth over seven furlongs, just under six lengths adrift of the winner, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding faces a wide draw nine, but he will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

GREEN RUN made good late progress to finish fifth last time out over seven furlongs, 2.8L behind the winner, when having his first run for his new trainer. He would have come on further with that run under his belt and from gate six, he should enjoy the extra ground on offer here.

Race 6

FIGMENT is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she had her consistency rewarded with her maiden victory last time out over six furlongs by a head. She was having her first run for her new yard and was returning from a 11-week rest on that occasion, but she raced three wide without cover and came the widest of them all into the home straight, before finishing off her race strongly, so that effort was full of merit. She has cracked pole position and whilst taking on stronger here, she will have 2kgs taken off her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

EXTREME MERGER is seldom far off the action, finishing second last time out over six furlongs, beaten just a short-head, but it should be noted that he won that raced but bumped another runner just short of the line and the resultant objection lodged against him was upheld and he was relegated to second spot. The gelding will have to negotiate a wide draw twelve, but he will be hoping to make amends today.

GOONOO won over six furlongs three runs back, finished fifth in his penultimate start again over a six furlong sprint and then third in his latest outing over the same trip, just a half-length behind the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and from his wide draw eleven, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today. The gelding has his peak run after returning from a 31-week break and should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, EIGHTY EIGHT STARS raced just behind the leaders and hit the front at the 200M mark before holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire to win his last start over six furlongs by a short-head. He was bumped close to the wire in that event and was declared the winner of the race in the boardroom. The gelding will have to overcome a wide draw nine, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

A 3-year and a 4-year-old filly could chase him home, with a preference for CORPSMAN who had solid form prior to being a tad disappointing to finish twelfth last time out over seven furlongs, 5.7L behind the winner, but she raced just behind the frontrunners before not going on with her effort over the closing stages, suggesting that the drop in distance will be to her liking. She is drawn one inside the top pick and should be right up there when they hit the line.

AGNODICE finished sixth in her latest outing over seven furlongs, 3.7L back from the winner, but she gets a set of blinkers re-fitted for today’s run and if this move has the desired effect, she should be a big runner here. She will have to deal with a wide gate thirteen, but she will have 2kgs taken off her back for the services of her claiming apprentice.
