Race 4

TWELFTH NIGHT is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she won her maiden race last time out over 1500M, albeit by just a short-head. That was only her fourth start to date and she had to be held up in the home straight, so that effort was encouraging. She has finished fifth in a subsequent barrier trial and whilst drawn wide in gate nine and taking on stronger, she may well be up too the task at hand and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

SUGOI LEGEND lost a length at the start, but stayed on well to finish fifth last time out over seven furlongs, just over four and a half lengths behind the winner. He will have to negotiate a wide gate twelve, but he will be having his peak run after returning from a 28-week break. The gelding will have the blinkers removed for today’s run and if this move has the desired effect, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

MONTE OUTLANDER won over a mile three runs back, finished ninth in his penultimate start over six furlongs and then sixth in his latest outing over 1300M, 6.2L behind the winner, but he lost a length at the start that day and was forced to come wide into the home straight. He gets a kinder draw five and will have his peak run after returning from a 16-week rest. In addition, he will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

Race 5

SNAPPY JIM showed plenty of toe when finishing sixth in his latest outing over seven furlongs, just over five and a half lengths back from the winner. He will have to deal with a wide draw nine, but on the plus side, he will have 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

SPRITELY EMILY is a 7yr old mare taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her name, finishing fourth last time out over six furlongs, 1,2L off the victor. She has pulled gate six and should turn in another honest performance today.

RENT A ROCK stayed on well when finishing eighth last time out when dropping down to five furlongs, just under three and a half lengths adrift of the winner and seems likely to enjoy the extra ground on offer here. From his useful draw four, he should improve over what appears to be a more suitable distance.

Race 6

The day’s best bet, DIVINE VICKY is a 3yr old filly taking on boys, but she won on debut over six furlongs by a head, this after being bumped shortly after the start and coming three wide into the home straight, so that effort was more than useful. The form of that race has also been franked and she has finished fifth in a subsequent barrier trial. She jumps from gate six and could well be good enough to complete a quick double.

KING CHARLES showed marked improvement when winning his last start over five furlongs by a length. He was returning from a 13-week rest that day and finished off his race well. The gelding will have to overcome a wide draw 10, but does get the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice.
BARANOF raced in the worst going when finishing ninth last time out over six furlongs, just over four and a half lengths behind the winner. That was his first run after a 21-week spell and from a cosy draw three and having ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, he will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 7

There are six unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first-time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, VANCOUVER’S CROWN may well prove to be the best. He has finished third in his last three runs, the latest over 1100M, just under a length behind the winner. He was slow away that day, finding himself towards the back of the field, before weaving his way through traffic down the home stretch. The gelding faces a wide draw nine, but will be having his peak run after returning from an 18-week absence and could give jockey Tyler Schiller a double in the day’s Jackpot, should the top pick win the first leg.

HOT SUNDAE is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when second over five furlongs, 1.3L behind the winner. She stayed on well in that event and a combination of a cosy draw four, having her peak run after returning from a 20-week rest and having ex-SA jockey Brandon Lerena in the irons, should make her a big runner in this line-up.

FAMEUX is a 2yr old colt taking on older horses, but he came three wide approaching the home turn when finishing third last time out over five furlongs, two and a half lengths behind the winner. He will have to overcome a wide draw 14, but he should be doing his best work late.
