Race 4

SHARPEN THE KNIVES is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished second in two of her last three runs, the latest over 1200M, just under three and a half lengths behind the winner. She sat just behind the leaders that day and then stayed on well over the closing stages and whilst drawn wide in gate eleven, she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

SO OUTRAGEOUS was having his first run for his new trainer and returning from a 34-week break when finishing third last time out over 1000M, seven and a half lengths back from the winner, but he raced three wide without cover that day. He would have come on further with that run under his belt and from his handy draw two, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

EXCEED THE SKY is another 3-year-old filly in the race and did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight when ending up in eighth spot last time out over 1000M, 5.3L behind the winner. In addition, she hung in from the 50M mark, so she had her excuses. The filly will have her peak run for her new trainer and after returning from a 27-week break and gets the blinkers removed. If this move has the desired effect, she should be a big runner here, notwithstanding a wide draw ten. On the plus side though, she will have 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

Race 5

RUN RORY RUN won over 1400M three runs back, finished third in his penultimate start over 1200M and then second in his latest outing over 1300M, beaten just a short-head. He struck the front at the top of the home straight that day and was only grabbed in the shadow of the post. The form of that race has also been franked and from a useful gate four and having 2kgs removed from his allocated weight, he is made the best bet on the day’s card.

LORD BOB put his disappointing penultimate start over 1000M behind him when finishing second next time out over 1200M, just a neck behind the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and from his cozy draw two and having his peak run after returning from a 15-week rest and with the services of a 2kgs claiming apprentice, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today to emerge as the biggest threat to the top pick.

SUMO FISH disappointed last time out when ending up in twelfth place, six and a half lengths adrift of the victor over 1000M, but that was in very heavy going, so a line should be drawn through that effort. The gelding faces a wide draw ten, but nevertheless, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 6

RUSH ATTACK is seldom far off the action and raced three wide without cover before battling all the way down to the wire to finish fourth last time out over 1600M, one and a half-length off the winner. He has his first run for his new trainer and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here, given that he will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and starting from gate six.

SLUSH FUND has cracked pole position and has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when fourth over 1400M, one and a half lengths behind the winner and having his peak run after returning from a 22-week absence. He overraced throughout in that event, but still managed to stay on well over the latter stages and he could complete the exacta.

GOLDEN HONOUR goes for his hat-trick after victories over 1400M and the latest over 1600M by 2.8L, when racing just behind the speed and the form of that race has been franked. He on the other has a wide draw fourteen, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, LOVE FOR ASHER is a 4-year-old filly taking on males, but she has only had three runs to date, winning on debut over 1000M, finishing eighth over the same sprint trip next time out and then third last time out over the same 1000M, just over a lengths behind the winner, when returning from a 47 week spell, but she was crowded at the 600M pole, before chasing hard all the way down to the wire. She will have to negotiate a wide draw nine, but she should be doing her best work late.

LEGOLAS has posted two solid last runs, finishing second in the latest over 1000M, two and a half lengths behind the winner. He raced three wide without cover on that occasion, but made good late progress over the latter stages. From his handy draw three and with the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice, he could complete the exacta.

FLOSS’S ONE is a 3-year-old filly who has finished third in her last two runs and was slow away and checked at the 800M pole before having to weave her way through traffic in the home stretch to finish third last time out over 1000M, just a length back from the victor. She has pulled draw seven and will be looking for her second career win.
