Race 4

Two 3-year-old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but RUMOURS ABOUND is taken to lead the field home. She showed plenty of toe when putting four and a half lengths between herself and the opposition to win her last start over 1000M. She is drawn wideish in gate eight, but she will be having her peak run after returning from a 30-week break and should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy to pull off a quick double.

DIVINE VICKY has cracked pole position and put her disappointing penultimate start over 1400M behind her when winning next time out over 1000M, albeit by just a head. She was returning from a 20-week rest on that occasion and struck the front at the 300M mark and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire.

AKAKA FALLS missed out on his hat-trick after two victories over 1000M when finishing third last time out over the same sprint trip, two lengths behind the winner. He kicked clear of the field at the 300M pole, only to be run out of it late. The gelding has pulled gate seven and with 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

Race 5

LENAPE VIBE finished sixth on debut over 1400M, two and a half lengths behind the winner, but he did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight at the 300M mark, before finishing off his race well. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he could be the one that they all have to beat. The gelding has a handy draw three and he should enjoy the extra ground on offer here.

BALMIERRO came four wide into the home straight when ending up in fourth place last time out over 1800M, 3.3L back from the winner. He jumps from gate six and will have a set of blinkers re-fitted for the day’s run and if this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

FIFTH FORCE finished closer to the winner in each of his last three outings and was bumped at the start and came three wide into the home stretch when finishing second last time out over 1600M, just a half-length behind the winner. He battled all the way down to the wire in that event and from his wide draw nine, he should be doing his best work late.

Race 6

Three 3-year-old fillies could dominate the finish to this race and secure the trifecta, but the day’s value bet, OUR COSMIC BELLE may well be the best of the trio. She jumped awkwardly, finding herself towards the rear of the field and was forced to come the widest of them all into the home straight, but she chased hard to finish second last time out over 1400M, just a length off the winner. The filly gets a useful gate three and could give jockey Tommy Berry a quick double.

RUBILACE has only had two runs to date, finishing third on debut over 1200M and then showing the expected improvement to end up in second spot next time out over 1300M, just a head behind the winner. It should however be noted that she was hampered at the 800M pole and came four wide into the home straight, so she had her excuses. The filly has a wideish draw seven, but on the plus side, she will have 2kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.

SHOW PONY has also only had two runs, finishing fifth first time out over 1000M and was bumped at the start, but kept chasing all the way down to the line to finish second next time out over 1200M, 1.3L behind the winner. She faces a wide draw twelve, but she would have come on further with that run under her belt and should not be easily overlooked.

Race 7

The day’s best bet, GLENBOWER finished fourth on debut over 1000M and was immediately rested for 61 weeks. The colt returned to win his next start by putting 2.8L between himself and the opposition. The break was clearly just what he had needed and the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence seems to have been vindicated. He will have to negotiate gate eight, but get the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd, so he will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

CODE IN TIME won over 1300M three runs back, finished second in his penultimate start over 1500M and then second again in his latest outing over 1300M, beaten just a short-head. He raced just behind the frontrunners in that event and was nabbed in the shadow of the post. From his kinder draw three and with blinkers re-fitted, as well as having 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

SPICY HOTPOT is a 4-year-old filly taking on males, but she was hampered on the home turn when finishing sixth last time out over 1200M, four lengths adrift of the victor. She will have to deal with a wide gate eleven, but she should nevertheless be involved in the finish.
