Race 4

Three 4-year-old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but BRIAL ROSE is taken to lead the field home. She had her consistency rewarded when showing plenty of toe to put four and a half lengths between herself and the opposition to win her maiden race last time out over 1000M. She was returning from a 22-week rest that day and has finished second in a subsequent barrier trial. The filly has a wide draw ten to overcome, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

SUTTON VELLA put her disappointing penultimate start over 1000M behind her when winning by 1.3L next time out over the same sprint trip. She returns here after having had a 19-week break without the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust, but from her kinder draw two, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

AQUALINA’S STAR had finished second in her two runs prior to winning her last start over 1000M by a half-length. She raced up with the pace that day before striking the front at the 200M mark and then holding off the chasing pack in the dash down to the line. She is another who returns from a rest, in her case 19 weeks, without having had a barrier trial, but notwithstanding a wide draw nine, she should be included in all bets.

Race 5

A 4-year-old filly and a 6-year-old mare could dominate the finish to this contest and secure the exacta, but STRAIGHT FIRE could turn out to be the better. She won over 1200M three runs back, finished second in her penultimate start over the same trip and then eighth in her latest outing over 1400M, 5.3L behind the winner, but she was slow away that day and never really got into the contest. The filly has a handy draw two and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.

GALACTIC ANGEL had to switch out at the 350M mark to get a clear run and then stayed on well to end up in eleventh spot last time out over 1100M, just under four lengths back from the victor. The form of that race has been franked and whilst having to negotiate a wideish gate eight, she will be having her peak run after returning from a 22-week spell.

HEAVENLY LEGEND also won over 1200M three runs back, finished sixth in his penultimate start over 1400M and then sixth again in his latest outing, back over 1200M, 3.2L behind the winner, when returning from a 19-week spell. He would have come on further with that run under his belt and from gate five, he should not be lightly dismissed.

Race 6

The day’s value bet, FIFI BLUE is a 5-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she had finished second in her penultimate start over 2100M, just a half lengths back from the winner before disappointing last time out when ending up in sixth place, 13.3L adrift of the winner, but it should be noted that she was reported to have not acted in the very heavy going that day, so that effort is best ignored. The mare gets draw six and could prove hard to topple.

LAFILIO had finished third in his three runs prior to winning his last start over 1800M, by 0.8L. He went from jump to wire that day and from his wide draw fourteen, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and could prove hard to reel in over the closing stages.

FINAL MAN showed solid improvement to finish third last time out over 1600M, 2.2L off the winner, this despite racing three wide throughout, coming the widest of them all into the home stretch and being held up approaching the home turn. The gelding is not drawn much better in gate twelve, but on the plus side, he will have 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

Race 7

ACHESON goes for his hat-trick after two victories over 1200M, the latest by 1.3L when going from gun to tape. He did shift outwards over the final 100M, and the resultant objection was fortunately overruled, and the original result was allowed to stand. The gelding was returning from a 17-week rest that day and would have benefited from the outing. He has pulled a useful gate three and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

SINGLE ATTRACTION is a 5-year-old mare taking on males, but she followed up her penultimate run victory over 1300M with a seventh-place finish next time out over the same trip, just over three and a half lengths back from the winner. She was slow away in that event, but battled all the way down to the wire and whilst drawn wideish in gate eight, she will be having her peak run after returning from a 13-week rest.

ZONTAWAH delivered a powerful finish from some way back to win his last start over 2000M by one and a half lengths and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding gets gate six and the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice.
