Race 4

DYNAMIC IMPACT followed up his penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a fifth-place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, 2.3L behind the winner. He was slow away that day, finding himself towards the back of the field, but made good late progress over the closing stages. He jumps from gate six and will have his peak run after returning from a 19-week break and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.

GAME THEORY has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when second over six furlongs, just under a half-length adrift of the victor. He jumped awkwardly and was bumped at the start on that occasion, but recovered quickly to take up the running, before being run out of it late. He was also reported to have lost a near-fore shoe and from one gate outside the top choice, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

TAWFIQ LASS is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she is seldom far off the action, finishing fifth last time out over 1100M, 2.7L back from the winner, when returning from a 20-week break. She came three wide into the home straight in that contest but stayed on well over the latter stages and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She gets draw five and will have 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

Race 5

SOPHIA’S MAGIC is a 5yr old mare taking on males, but she has turned in two solid last runs, the latest when second over 1900M, just a length off the winner, but it should be noted that she jumped awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start and then came four wide into the home straight, so that effort was encouraging. The form of that race has been franked and from her handy draw two, she could be the one that they all have to beat.

ABOVE AND BEYOND won his penultimate run over 1500M and was then slow away and eased off the heels of other runners at the 300M pole when ending up in tenth place next time out over the same journey, six and a half lengths adrift of the winner. The gelding has draw five and will be hoping to bounce back to some of his better form.

KARLSTAD is the stable companion to the top choice and is also a 5yr old mare. She jumped awkwardly and then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 150M mark, before finishing off her race smartly. She is drawn one inside the latter and makes a solid back-up for the powerful Chris Waller yard.

Race 6

The day’s best bet, JOURNALISM put his disappointing penultimate run over seven furlongs in very heavy going firmly behind him when winning his last start over 1300M by a half-length. He was returning from a 27-week spell that day and came four wide into the home straight before delivering a powerful finish to win going away. The gelding has gate seven and should be doing his best work late.

UNRELENTING has cracked pole position and had solid form prior to finishing twelfth last time out over 1500M, 9.3L behind the winner, but he overraced in the middle stages and was bumped at the 350M mark in that event. The form of that race has been franked and he could prove to be the biggest threat to the top pick.

MYSTIC MERMAID is a 4yr old filly taking on boys and although recorded as finishing fifth last time out over 1500M, she was just under two lengths back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She jumps from one gate outside the latter and will have champion jockey James McDonald in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 7

This looks to be a tricky race to end off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top selection is RECOMMENDATION who has consistent formlines to his name, finishing third last time out over six furlongs, one and a half-length behind the winner, when returning from a 23-week absence. The gelding showed plenty of toe that day and from a wide draw thirteen, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

THE GREAT HOUDINI won over 1100M three run back, finished second over six furlongs in his penultimate start and then fourth last time out over 1100M, 3.8L behind the winner, when returning from a longer 26-week spell. The gelding jumped awkwardly but battled all the way down to the wire. From his kinder draw six, he should be considered a big runner in this line-up.

DAME CARTLAND is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she put 3.3L between herself and the opposition when winning her maiden race last time out over six furlongs. She was returning from a 20-week rest that day and jumped awkwardly, before coming four wide into the home stretch. She gets a useful gate three and should be included in all bets.
