Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. The tentative top pick goes to PIERCING ARROW who showed plenty of toe when winning by a length over five furlongs on debut. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he could be the one that they all have to beat. He does, however, return from a 40-week spell, but he has had all of five barrier trials, finishing second in the latest.

The colt has a handy draw four and looks to be the one to side with here. CAPE BYRON goes for his hat-trick after victories over 1300M and the latest over seven furlongs by one and a half lengths. He delivered a powerful finish from some way back that day and the form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The gelding faces a wide draw eleven, but he has his peak run after returning from a 14-week rest and he should be doing his best work late.

ROCK HARD LOVE finished third first time out over six furlongs and then showed the expected improvement to win next time out over 1100M, albeit by just a short-head. He had to be held up at the top of the home straight in that event, but finished well over the closing stages, despite shifting out badly over the final 150M. The gelding has pulled gate six and is one for all bets.

Race 6

EBONY KING is seldom far off the action and raced three wide without cover but was able to kick clear of the opposition at the top of the home straight, only to be run out of it over the latter stages, to end up in second place last time out over six furlongs, beaten just 1.3L. The gelding has a useful draw two and is made the value bet on the day’s card.

ABLE WILLIE won over 1100M three runs back, finished sixth in his penultimate start over the same sprint trip and then ninth in his latest outing, again over the same distance, four and a half lengths behind the winner, but he jumped awkwardly in that contest and was severely hampered shortly thereafter, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding jumps from gate five and returns from a 19-week break but has had the benefit of four barrier trials.

OCEANS ONE has finished second in his last two outings, the latest over 1100M, just a half-length back from the victor, but he was forced to race three wide without cover that day. He has cracked pole position and will be hoping to go one better today.

Race 7

A 3-year-old and a 4-year-old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta but CONFESS OUR DREAMS is taken to lead the field home. She is three for three, the latest victory coming over five furlongs by 1.3L, when returning from a 17-week rest. She jumped awkwardly that day and then raced three wide without cover, but stayed on well over the latter stages. She faces a wide draw eleven, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

WILD BOTANICA has posted two solid last runs and although recorded as finishing sixth last time out over 1100M, she was just 1.2L behind the winner, this after coming four wide into the home stretch. The filly will have to negotiate a wider draw thirteen, but she is a speedy sort who should be able to work her way across without using up too much gas. She will also be having her peak run for her new trainer after returning from a 40-week spell.

BIOGRAPHER had nothing go his way when finishing fifth last time out over 1100M, 3.2L adrift of the victor. He jumped awkwardly, overraced throughout and then came three wide into the home straight, so he had his excuses. The gelding has pulled gate six and returns from a 21-week break, but has won both his barrier trials to showcase his well-being.

Race 8

The day’s best bet, TIME QUEST has consistent formlines to his name, having finished second in his last two outings, the latest over seven furlongs, beaten just a head, when returning from a 29-week absence. He jumped awkwardly that day, bumping another runner and then came three wide into the home straight, but still managed to finish off his race strongly.

The gelding will have to deal with a wide draw eleven, but he will be looking to claim his third career victory here. CADETSHIP had his consistency rewarded with a 0.8L victory last time out over seven furlongs. The gelding raced just behind the frontrunners before hitting the front at the 200M mark and then holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He has a cosy draw two and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

GIVARA was bumped at the start, but finished well to win his last outing over this C&D by a head. He has a wide gate nine but nevertheless should be involved in the finish as he seeks a quick double.
