Race 4: ASPEN FIRE(1)
Race 5: NOTTING HILL(7)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: WHITELIGHTWARRIOR(1)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

The visiting team of Kotzen and Fourie is well-represented on this card and the pair could have a good day in the ‘windy city’. They combine with the speedy WHITELIGHTWARRIOR in this opening event. This Captain Al gelding has gradually improved his formline in the ‘Mother City’ but his stablemate Mount Keith (runs in race 2 today) proved too good for him over this trip recently. Still, the bay gelding finished ahead of some more fancied rivals and should be very competitive here.

TOP BET
Race 2: MOUNT KEITH(9)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

It could pay to follow the progress of the Kotzen runner in the opening event as the first selection here, MOUNT KEITH thrashed his stablemate in the maiden ranks at Kenilworth over today’s distance, three weeks ago. He has firmly bounced back to his best form since being gelded and the three-year-old has more to offer. He should handle the rise in class on his local debut and has definite claims on his peak run. The bay gelding is only slightly out at the weights.

Race 3: GOLDEN TONGUE(2)
Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON – Trainer: Tara LAING

The blinkers had a positive effect on the lightly raced GOLDEN TONGUE who he stayed on for 2nd over this c & d last month. The 7th placed finisher Baksheesh was beaten a head into 2nd at huge odds next time out and that gives the form a slight boost. The son of Oracy will again wear the headgear and he should continue to progress. He jumps from the best draw.

Race 4: ANGEL OF ATHENS(4)

Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

The Fourie/Kotzen partnership could be at it again here with the three-year-old chestnut filly ANGEL OF ATHENS who makes her local debut. The Cape visitor has improved with each start in her home province and she ran on well for 2nd over a mile at Kenilworth last time out. There is a slight reservation on her damside as to whether she will stay today’s ten furlongs but there isn’t a natural pacesetter in this field and a likely sedate gallop could play right into the hands of the daughter of Gitano Hernando who has further scope for progress.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 9: FREDERICK FOX(4)
Jockey: Juan-Paul VAN DER MEVE – Trainer: Gavin SMITH

This is a very competitive final affair with many frontrunners who should ensure a likely suicidal early pace. That could play right into the hands of the top selection FREDERICK FOX who is threatening his next career victory. He should have finished much closer but for major traffic issues last time, mostly due to some strange navigating by his pilot and the five-year-old gelding represents very good each/way value here.
