Race 1: LORDOFTHEGOOGLIE(14)
Race 2: MAVERICK GIRL(9)
Race 4: EROS’S GIRL(4)
Race 7: OOMPH(2)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: MAVERICK GIRL(9)
Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER
MAVERICK GIRL attracted solid betting support when she produced a top class debut over this c & d, four weeks ago. She challenged a highly regarded sort strongly in the closing stages when beaten a neck into 2nd and would have come on appreciably from that first experience. The daughter of Rebel King should have lots more to offer and she will benefit from a 2.5kgs apprentice allowance in her first start in open company today.

Race 4: ACACIAWOOD(2)
Jockey:  Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

ACACIAWOOD failed to handle seven furlongs in a Cape feature last time but she has class about her and is undoubtedly at her best when sprinting. The Justin Snaith inmate easily beat a smart field over this distance on Met Day in her penultimate run and she could have a major say on her local debut.

Race 6: WELSH EMPEROR(2)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Alan GREEFF

In contrast to previous years, a local could start favourite for this renewal of the Grade 3 East Cape Derby and WELSH EMPEROR is expected to pull this off. The Alan Greeff inmate has shown top ability from day one and he stamped his authority on some out of town raiders with an impressive last ten furlongs victory over fellow local KING OF CHAOS in the Derby Trial, three weeks ago. The son of Go Deputy should have little issue with the step-up in distance and he clearly has lots more to offer. He will certainly have plenty of local support.

Race 7: OOMPH(2)

Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER – Trainer: Alan GREEFF

The unbeaten OOMPH crushed his Nursery field that included subsequent winner BOLLEMAKIESIE over this c & d second time out and he looks a bright prospect in the making. He has accounted for all but three of today’s rivals and should take a power of beating. The latter has improved since but could find it tough to overturn the deficit.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 9: ATSO TIME(6)
Jockey: Teaque GOULD – Trainer: Corne SPIES

The Corne’ Spies yard holds a decent hand in this low-key handicap that has a maximum field and ATSO TIME gets the narrow first verdict on his local debut. The former Gauteng resident has competed in much stronger company and he produced an improved last run over seven furlongs at the Vaal. Interestingly, he was docked four pounds in his rating after that showing and can stake a bold claim on his local debut. The son of Atso is at his best when sprinting.
