Race 1: BLACK HALL BAR(2)

Jockey: Bernard FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Neil BRUSS

BLACK HALL BAR attracted strong betting support when she made the expected improvement over seven furlongs, second time out. She ran on strongly for a close 2nd at Scottsville that day and should continue to progress. She gives every indication that the mile will suit her and she is her stable’s only runner on the night.

Race 2: STEP UP(6)

Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD – Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL

STEP UP is a Cape visitor who was unfancied when he made a fair debut behind a decent type over seven furlongs on the grass, four weeks ago. He had some excuses on that occasion but interestingly finished 4.50 lengths ahead of subsequent easy winner Paperback Writer from the Dean Kannemeyer yard. This well related well Chestnut should make natural improvement and he could take some beating, if handling this surface. This combination has been in great form recently.

TOP BET
Race 4: LONELY ARETHEBRAVE(3)

Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Sean TARRY

There should be a decent gallop in this competitive low-key affair and that makes for an exciting finish. The Sean Tarry inmate LONELYARETHEBRAVE has been excellent in three polytrack attempts and he kept on well to record a comfortable last c & d win at a slightly lesser level, two weeks ago. That earned him a hefty six-pound penalty but the son of Jet Master clearly has more to offer on this track and he could still be ahead of the handicapper here. He jumps from another decent draw and will again benefit from a 2.5kgs apprentice claim. He should easily handle the rise in class and the solid gallop will suit him perfectly.

Race 7: BURNBURRY(1)

Jockey: Sean VEALE – Trainer: Jeff FREEDMAN

The Jeff Freedman stable holds a strong hand in this final event and BURNBURRY should bounce right back to her best with the blinkers removed. The daughter of Atso had two exciting runs, the debut of which was over this c & d, prior to her shocking last effort with the headgear on. The lightly raced three-year-old bay filly still has plenty of improvement still to come and she should go very close in this final event. She usually runs on well so her wide draw isn’t an issue.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: SISTER COSMOS(5)

Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Sean TARRY

SISTER COSMOS had excuses for her shocking last run and seven-week week break would have served her well. She showed lots of promise prior to that, particularly on this surface and the smart daughter of Visionaire still has plenty of improvement to come. She was an impressive debut winner in her only c & d attempt and can step up in grade against male rivals tonight. The Sean Tarry inmate will benefit from a 2.5kgs apprentice allowance and she is expected to get her career back on track.
