Race 3: LORDOFTHEGOOGLIE(7)
Race 8: REFRAIN(13)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: SOVIET COSMONAUT(9)
Jockey: Craig ZACKEY – Trainer: Corne SPIES

The juveniles hold a decent hand in this maiden contest and the formline worth following is the Occasional Rebel c & d showing on 18/04. Here SOVIET COSMONAUT performed best of today’s rivals when the Spies inmate ran on well for 3rd in that event. He finished just under one length ahead of the older gelding KING OF THE NORTH that day but has more room for improvement and can confirm the form.

Race 4: SHERRY(6)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

There are many form runners in this opening leg of the Jackpot and a tight finish is expected. SHERRY has posted two decent local runs on this course against male rivals and she gets the narrow first verdict from the best draw. The daughter of Silvano made steady progress for 4th over this c & d last time and she could be a lively contender against her own sex today.

TOP BET
Race 7: GOGETTHESHERIFF(1)
Jockey: Juan-Paul VAN DER MERVE – Trainer: Jaques STRYDOM

The brilliant track specialist GOGETTHESHERIFF has a wonderful opportunity to write his name into the history books of South African racing as the inaugural winner of this polytrack challenge, having won the first two legs over shorter. It would be a great autumn for his sire Go Deputy who of course, is also the sire of Triple Crown victor Abashiri. This five-year-old gelding has been flawless in his two recent outings and the mile suits him perfectly. He is by some distance best in on official ratings at the weights and will prove hard to beat. That said, the slight area of concern is that there isn’t a natural pacesetter and a false gallop may not suit the chestnut who often produces a wonderful late burst.

Race 8: SHAMAL(8)

Jockey: Francois HERHOLDT – Trainer: Duncan MCKENZIE

SHAMAL is enjoying life in this province and she produced two strong finishes to be close-up in her last two runs, one of which was on this track in her penultimate run. She followed that up with a good effort under today’s jockey over seven furlongs and is a former winner over a mile. The five-year-old chestnut mare was rightly hiked three pounds in her rating but she is well drawn at gate 2 and can stake another serious claim. She is her yard’s only runner on the day.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: CRESCENDO(6)
Jockey: Ryan MUNGER – Trainer: Grant PADDOCK

There are many natural frontrunners who should ensure a cracking gallop in this competitive contest, with a true result most likely. CRESCENDO has been facing stronger and has some decent polytrack credentials, including a close 4th over this trip in his penultimate outing in a quality field. He had excuses for his poor last effort over the mile but drops in class and the strong pace will certainly suit his cause. The five-year-old gelding does represent some decent each/way value.
