Race 1 gets underway at 12:50 (SAST), a Class 5 event over the mile and SPUR ME ON is the pick to get punters off to a winning start. He has impressed under the retaining apprentice in his last two starts when finishing second on both occasions and he now steps up to a trip where he should be more effective. If he finds early cover, he should be too strong for the rest. ANGEL HALO has slipped in the ratings and he appears to have landed on a competitive mark of 46. He should be the biggest challenger to the top one.

MAN OF MYSTERY has been knocking on the door since dropping into this class of opposition and he gets the nod for first prize, in the second race on the card. He is a regular contender over this course and distance and he will be looking to capitalize off his current mark of 66. He had excuses in his penultimate run when taking a severe bump at the start and he did well to run 4th in the end. If he finds a bit more luck in running this time, he should be good enough this time.

OVERCOMING looks to be one of the better bets on the card, when he lines up in the third race. Having dropped into this class in his penultimate start, he has shown signs of finding the winners enclosure since then and from a much-improved draw this time, it is hard to look past him. If he doesn’t get it right this time PAPERBACK TROOPER could be there to pick up the pieces. He too, finds an improved draw now and on the back of some consistent form, he should be right there at the business end.

The 4th race on the card takes us to the halfway mark and GLOBAL KID should be quite strongly fancied as far as the betting is concerned. He checked severely over the concluding stages of his last start when running on strongly in the closing stages and with that being just his third outing, he has plenty more to come. From a reasonable draw, Powell retains the ride and he must be in with a big shout here. FIELD MARSHALL has been a consistent sort this term and he will be looking for an interruption-free outing this time having become unbalanced after taking a severe bump at the start last time. He still managed to run on strongly in that effort and from another wide draw, he will be switched off and expected to adopt similar tactics this time.

Race 5 is the second of three Turf races and it’s GENTLEMANS AGREEMENT who gets the ‘expected winners’ tag. He was just touched off last time out when overcoming a wide draw and being forced to race wide without cover. That was on the back of another encouraging run in his penultimate start. From a plum draw this time, Kellady retains the ride and he is a clear first selection to get the job done for ‘favourite’ backers.

Race 6 is the headline event on the card, a Class 2 race over the 1400m and its ALTAIR who is narrowly picked for first. The son of Zoustar is a 4-time winner from 5 starts and despite finding another wide draw, Benny Woodworth has the credentials to overcome that hurdle and get him into the winners’ enclosure. REAL SUCCESS comes into this race on the back of a solid effort in Group 1 company last time out. He will thoroughly enjoy dropping back in trip here and deserves plenty of respect.

We revert back to the Poly for the penultimate race on the card and it’s MACH who could kick off the final double for punters. He has been in very consistent form over this sort of trip on the Poly and from a slightly better draw this time, he could present some useful value for punters. ARC TRIUMPH is the top weight in the race, but he appears to be ahead of the handicapper having dropped 5-points in his last 5 outings. If overcoming that tricky draw, he should be right there.

Race 8 brings us to the end of the meeting and punters will be looking to finish off with a bang. RISE OF EMPIRE won his last start after two promising seconds to kick start his career here. The son of Not A Single Doubt has plenty more to come and it is no surprise to see Vlad Duric stick with the ride. From a plum draw this time, he steps up to a trip he should relish and he looks hard to oppose. WATER ROCKET arrives on the back of an encouraging trial and he will be looking to land the hat-trick of wins for his connections. Ryan Munger gets the ride and it could be a nice opportunity for the young South African to notch up a win. He must be included in wider perms.
