TOP BET FOR TODAY
Race 1: CHIMICHURI RUN (9)
Jockey: Lerena G  – Trainer: Tarry S

CHIMICHURI RUN has good consistent form lines to his credit. He raced from just off the pace in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint last time and stayed on well at the finish. He is the best-weighted horse in this race and should be a class above the rest of the field. He does try the Polytrack for the first time and if suited to the surface, should take a power of beating.

Race 2: VERNICHEY (14)
Jockey: Kennedy W – Trainer: Van Zyl G

VERNICHEY is unbeaten from three starts and has Grade 1 status to her name. She showed a lot of guts and determination to hold all challengers at bay in the Allan Robertson Championship last time. She is having her first run around the turn today, but Warren Kennedy knows her well and he will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle. With a bit of luck from her wide draw, she should be hard to beat.

Race 6: ERIK THE RED (4)
Jockey: Fourie R – Trainer: Snaith J

ERIK THE RED was a tad disappointing when finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion last time. That was his first run in KZN and he would have come on from that outing. The son of Captain Al tries the seven furlongs for the first time and should have no issues with the step up in trip. He looks to be the class horse in the race and should take a power of beating.

Race 10: CROWN TOWERS (4)
Jockey: Fourie R – Trainer: Snaith J

CROWN TOWERS showed signs of needing his comeback run in the WSB 1900 last time. His penultimate run when winning the Jet Master Stakes over this distance at Kenilworth catches the eye. He should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and with Richard Fourie back in the saddle, he may be the one they all have to beat.

Race 3: LEOPOLD (6)
Jockey: Murray C – Trainer: Janse van Vuur

LEOPOLD was in need of his last two starts at Turffontein. He is a big horse that needs racing to get him to his peak fitness. The run that catches the eye is when finishing fourth in the SA Classic behind Durban July contender, Got The Greenlight three runs ago. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day indicates that he will have no issues with today’s distance. He jumps from a positive barrier position and could be the one to cause the upset.
