Race 5
A 4yr
old filly and a 5yr old mare look like they will fight out the finish to this
race and complete the exacta. LING LING has shown steady
improvement in both of her last outings after returning from a 25 week break
and tried to go from jump to wire when just failing by a head in finishing
second last time out over five furlongs at this venue. She battled on gamely
that day and should not have an issue with going the extra trip. From gate six,
she should be right up there when they hit the line. RAKTOFF is
a speedy sort who was only run out of it very late last time out over this
distance. She has an even better draw of gate three and should be involved in
the finish today. CAFE TORTONI returns from a 19 week
rest and has not had the benefit of a barrier trial. He like to race up with
the pace in his races and should enjoy the drop in distance from his latest run
over 1750M. He is drawn one outside the latter which do him no harm.
Race 6
EUREKA STREET has
pulled pole position and was making good late progress when finishing third
over nine furlongs last time out, suggesting that the extra ground on offer
today will be to his liking. He has cracked pole position and looks to be the
one to side with here. CAMPOBASSO followed up his
penultimate run victory over 2020m with a sixth place finish next time out over
1700M. He returns to what appears to be a more suitable distance today and
should not be lightly dismissed in this line-up. DOGMATIC was
staying on well when he finished fifth in his last outing over ten furlongs,
2.1L off the winner. He does have a wide draw of eleven out of the twelve
runners to negotiate, but he should be doing his best work late.
Race 7
SPENSIERATO is
a 5yr old mare taking on the boys and has her second run after a 15 week rest.
She was making good late headway when finishing fifth last time out over 1300m
and on that effort, she should relish going over the seven furlongs of today’s
contest. She has a wideish draw of eight, but could emerge as the vale bet on
today’s program. VLADIVOSTOK has consistent formlines
to his name and finished second last time out over 1300M, just under two
lengths behind the victor. He finished with a flourish that day and seems
certain to appreciate the step up to seven furlongs. He will get 1.5kgs taken
off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice. DO YOU RECKON will
have an even greater 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his
claiming appie and has cracked pole position. He kept going all the way down to
the wire when ending up in sixth place in his last outing over 1500M and should
enjoy the drop in trip today.
Race 8
CATEGORY FIVE goes
for his hat-trick here having won his last start over this mile journey by
1.3L. He took the lead from the start and then held on gamey to chalk up his
second career win that day. He jumps from gate five and seems good enough to
complete his double in this line-up. TEE TRAIN was only run out of it
late when finishing third in his last outing over 1715M. He is drawn one inside
the top choice and will have the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice. The
gelding seems likely to enjoy the drop in distance. BOLTOUTOFTHEBLUE took
the lead shortly after the start before only being overhauled in the latter
stages of his last run over 1715M. He has a wide draw of thirteen to overcome, but given his
style of running, he should use that early gate speed to move across without
consuming too much energy.
