Race
2 PRIX FRANCOIS BOUTIN (Group 2
)

No5
UNVEIL (Nap)

Trainer:
Carlos Laffon-Parias – Jockey: Maxime Guyon

 Three
fillies take on two colts in what could prove an informative contest and the
one to be on is
UNVEIL. Her course and distance triumph on debut last month had
plenty to like about it and she’s learned a lot mentally from the run. She can
give her trainer plenty to dream about for the top back end juvenile races.

Race
4 PRIX DU HARAS DE FRESNEY-LE-BUFFARD JACQUES LE MAROIS (Group 1)

No5
PALACE PIER

Trainer:
John Gosden – Jockey: Frankie Dettori

 The
traditional highlight of the August Festival has attracted a star-studded line
up with plenty to ponder on, but if there’s a proper champion amongst the seven
contenders that horse has to be
PALACE PIER. His four from four unbeaten record
speaks for itself and includes a storming triumph over Pinatubo in the St James’s
Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, but even more important to his winning chance is
Frankie Dettori’s decision to forego the whole of this week’s York Festival
because of Covid restrictions in order to partner the Kingman colt. The French
field a strong triumvirate in
PRETREVILLE, PERSIAN KING and RESTIANY, with
Persian King clearly the best on form. The Andre Fabre-trainer colt easily
swept
PRETREVILLE aside in a Group 2 at Saint-Cloud before looking even more
impressive in taking out a Group 1 at Chantilly.
RESTIANY is an improving son
of Frankel but is taking a huge jump up the ladder from Listed. Last year’s
victor
ROMANISED has been trained specifically for a repeat by Ken Condon and
showed his well being with a smooth Group 2 success on his first run back at
the Curragh. He’s very closely matched with Aidan O’Brien’s
CIRCUS MAXIMUS on
the Moulin form of last year. The only filly in the field is ALPINE
STAR, who
represents connections with fond memories of this prize, having captured it
with the brilliant Alpha Centauri two years ago. Her scything run to cut down
her foes in the Coronation Stakes stamped her a proper Group 1 filly, while
when beaten by Fancy Blue in the Prix de Diane at Chantilly it was by the
narrowest margin, and Jessie Harrington will have her trained to the minute.

Prediction
– 1st
PALACE PIER, 2nd Alpine Star, 3rd Persian King, 4th Romanised, 5th Circus
Maximus, 6th Pretreville

Race
6 PRIX MINERVE (Group 3)

No3
LABURNUM

Trainer:
Aidan O’Brien – Jockey: Frankie Dettori

 Dettori
comes in for a sparkling spare ride on the beautifully-bred
LABURNUM and can
look forward to another potential winner before he goes into isolation. The
selection has posted her two career wins at Gowran Park, latterly beating the
useful Ennistymon in a Listed race last week. She’s making a very swift return
to action but her trainer must know that this is an opportunity not to be
missed.
