VARISCITE showed good improvement prior to suffering a setback that has kept her out of action for 36 weeks. She stayed on well for a close 2nd over six furlongs on this course last time and the engaging of top jockey Marcus suggests that her conditioner will have the daughter of Var fit and well. She is only having her fourth career appearance and is entitled to improve.

PIPPIN is holding her form well and she could be the right one on her peak showing. The daughter of Mambo In Seattle is ideally c & d suited and her latest formline was boosted when her stablemate Madame Excess got up to win her subsequent start after finishing runner-up in the above event. The four-year old filly has unfortunately drawn badly once more but she gets the services of Marcus and should give another good account of herself.

Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Charles LAIRD
MONTE CHRISTO was rewarded for consistency as he got up late to win his last start over seven furlongs mostly due to his jockey’s brilliance. The Trippi gelding is versatile though and he has the class to compete against today’s opposition. His conditioner has cleverly equipped him with blinkers and he can follow-up.
Race 9: ST ELMO’S FIRE(6)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON
This is another extremely wide open handicap. ST ELMO’S FIRE has done well since arriving in the province and she was running on late when 4th behind ZILLA on the polytrack over a similar distance, three weeks ago. The Cape visitor is very effective on the grass and she can turn things around with her conqueror whom she meets on 1.5kgs better terms. She is her stable’s only entrant on the card and Marcus retains the ride on the daughter of Judpot.
SUN ON AFRICA improved his formline when staying on for a solid 3rd behind DOUBLE CLUTCH last time out and he can reverse the form with the latter on 5.5kgs better terms. The five-year-old bay gelding won his only c & d showing and top jockey Brandon Lerena retains the ride.
