Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: GYPSY BEAUTY(1)
Jockey: O NOACH – Trainer: G W ENNION

The smart filly GYPSY BEAUTY may have just needed her comeback run when staying on for 2nd behind the highly rated Mogostar (flopped next time out) over this c & d, four weeks ago. She only finished three parts of a length in front of the rank outsider GEOGRAPHE BAY who was making her debut but the proven daughter of Toreador will strip much fitter and she seems to have a bit of class about her. She should go very close in this line-up.

TOP BET

Race 5: RED GRANITE(2)
Jockey: D DILLION – Trainer: J RAMSDEN

RED GRANITE
enjoyed the extra furlong and the turn as she ran on well for 2nd over this c & d recently despite jumping awkwardly out of the gates. The extremely well-related daughter of Seventh Rock should be cherry-ripe today and she can build on that performance. The Ramsden inmate jumps from a good draw.

Race 7: TRIPPI’S GIRL(7)
Jockey: R FOURIE – Trainer: G S KOTZEN

TRIPPI’S GIRL
may have just failed to see out the seven furlongs recently & she will relish reverting to sprints today. The above-average daughter of Trippi went close in a similar handicap over this c & d on her hometown debut in her penultimate outing and she will be cherry-ripe today.

Race 8: CARRY ON ALICE(1)

Jockey: S KHUMALO – Trainer: S G TARRY

The day’s topliner is a Grade 2 five furlong sprint that sees the return to action of the champion Gauteng sprinter, CARRY ON ALICE from the Sean Tarry yard. The bay mare was given a deserved break after a below-par last Grade 1 showing behind REAL PRINCESS. She has enjoyed some fine performances in the ‘Mother City’ and went close to winning a Grade 1 over this track & trip against male rivals in late January. The daughter of Captain Al should once again be the one to beat.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 9: FLYING RYAN(9)

Jockey: C ORFFER – Trainer: G R PULLIN

There are some improving three-year-olds in this competitive low-key handicap but they could be made to work very hard for victory. The four-year-old FLYING RYAN is well-weighted with GYRE (3.5kgs worse off) and THE SLADE (4kgs worse off) on the c & d run behind Mega Secret where he finished just over three lengths adrift of his conqueror. He jumps from a good draw and thanks to the gradual drop in his merit rating, the son of Horse Chestnut has a handy galloping mass over his favourite distance. He can certainly provide the upset.
