The Philanthropist gelding should relish today’s extra furlong and he can make smart improvement with Gavin Lerena retaining the ride for a yard that has come to form on the Highveld in recent weeks. The bay gelding has gate speed to overcome the widest draw.

The imported filly STREET GAZE was understandably green when she eventually made progress on her fair sprint debut at the Vaal, three weeks ago. She was well-fancied that day, indicating that she has shown decent work back home and there should be heaps of improvement to come from the daughter of Street Cry. The brown filly is bred to relish the rise in distance and she is well drawn on her track debut.

SKYNIGHT got back to form when equipped with blinkers recently and he may have escaped without a penalty. He takes on much stronger now but had one solid effort on this track and does seem capable of further progress. The son of Argonaut has no issues with this trip and top jockey Khumalo gets the ride.

ILITSHE has posted some good recent form under Fortune and today’s drop in distance will suit him perfectly. He is the yard’s only entrant on the day and should stake a serious claim from a good draw.

RED POMEGRANATE showed her class early on in her career when quickening smartly to shed her maiden tag over this c & d. She flopped in a subsequent feature when not striding out but only after she won her handicap debut under a big mass in fine fashion. The imported filly needed her comeback sprint and she should be a major threat here.
