Winning Form brings you their best tips for Turffontein’s racing on Thursday the 27th of April 2017. Tips provided come from Winning Form, as well as their back page tipster – Magic Tips by eMeM.

Winning Form Best Bets

Race 1: ALEX THE GREAT(1)
Race 2: COUNTESS VAR(6)
Race 5: STATE STAR(2)
Race 6: ROMI’S BOY(8)

Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 1: PURPLE DIAMOND(9)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Sean TARRY

PURPLE DIAMOND began his career with two decent efforts during the Cape summer, indicating that his top conditioner rates him highly. The well-related Var colt made the expected improvement when he finished a creditable 4th behind winners over five furlongs second time out and that formline was boosted by the 3rd placed Dutch Philip (won subsequently). He would have strengthened during the rest and should have little issue with today’s extra furlong. The Tarry inmate should continue to improve and he is well drawn on his hometown debut.

Race 3: IMPERIAL PAST(5)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Joe SOMA

IMPERIAL PAST has only managed two fair efforts when strongly fancied but clearly needed his comeback run after a lengthy layoff. The speedy bay gelding will certainly strip fitter now and this track could suit his running style. He has experience around the turn and that will undoubtedly stand him in good stead. There could be smart improvement to come from the son of Great Britain.

Race 4: FLYING RUSSIAN(1)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Michael AZZIE

FLYING RUSSIAN needed his comeback run when also perhaps being unsuited to the sticky underfoot conditions recently. He had very smart form prior to that and the pacey inmate from the Azzie yard could enjoy racing on this circuit. He will strip fitter and should be highly competitive from a good draw.

TOP BET
Race 5: STATE STAR(2)
Jockey: Anthony DELPCECH – Trainer: Alec LAIRD

STATE STAR is a highly promising imported filly who ran above expectations when she finished a most creditable 3rd behind two proven sorts at graduation level over this c & d, second time out. She escaped without a penalty, only due to a technicality and is extremely well treated on her handicap debut now. The daughter of High Chaparral could be worth following in the future and she should take a power of beating today.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: ROMI’S BOY(8)

Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Alec LAIRD

A smart field heads to post for this progress sprint where quite ironically, there aren’t many speedy sorts so the merit ratings may not necessarily be the best guide. The top selection ROMI’S BOY has it all to do at the weights but is a pacey sort who could have things all his own way from the best draw. The son of Querari has shown promise over sprints and rather interestingly, is unbeaten with Strydom in the saddle. This track should suit his running style and he will definitely be fitter after perhaps just needing his comeback run.
