Kempton Park Best Bets
Race 1: PEARL JAM (8)
Trainer: James Fanshawe
Jockey: Tom Marquand
Facing very similar opposition to that when she was beaten just a neck over course and distance last time, PEARL JAM has a good chance of going one better. Named after the band from Washington , Seattle, she has improved for being campaigned on the all weather and granted another move in the right direction can open her account.
Race 8: RAVENOUS (9)
Trainer: Luke Dace
Jockey: Mr Guy Mitchell
Getting weight from all his foes, RAVENOUS offers up decent value from a good gate that can see him take charge early. It’s best to put a line through his abortive trip to Wincanton last month where he blundered and unseated his pilot early. Back on the level he could surprise some of these.
Southwell Best Bets
Race 4: MISS GRADENKO (9)
Trainer: Robert Cowell
Jockey: Raul Da Silva
Under new ownership, MISS GRADENKO holds scope for further progression after opening her account at Kempton on her fifth career start. She hounded her foes before wearing down the in form Katherine Place by a neck. She’s a filly that can follow up if handling the deeper Southwell (Fibresand) surface.
Race 7: MAMDOOD (4)
Trainer: Stef Keniry
Jockey: Mr Eireann Cagney
MAMDOOD is on a recovery mission after being beaten when odds-on at Wolverhampton last time. While it’s hard to say he was unlucky, he didn’t enjoy the rub of the green and was gaining had over fist on those that beat him towards the finish. Importantly he has a quarter mile further to travel this time, and the racing surface will make it much more of a stamina test.
Exeter Best Bets
Race 3: JANIKA (2)
Trainer: Nicky Henderson
Jockey: Daryl Jacob
With Altior set to jump up the distance ladder Henderson is looking for a horse that can cut the mustard in the big two mile chases and JANIKA should have plenty to offer following some good efforts in defeat last season. Today’s Haldon Gold Cup is the perfect launch pad for the 6yo who when last seen finished a creditable fourth in the Topham Trophy at Aintree. He certainly won’t mind dropping back in trip, he’s considered more than ready and is one to follow.
