UK Racing Best Bets – Tuesday 8 October 2019

Tuesday 8 October 2019

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from UK Racing at Brighton, Catterick, Leicester and Chelmsford on Tuesday 8 October.

Brighton Best Bets

Race 2: RAINS OF CASTAMERE (10)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Charles Bishop

One of the few debutants in this seven furlongs novice, RAINS OF CASTAMERE hails from a stable that very rarely sends out a first time winner but the son of the unfashionable Harbour Watch could buck the trend. He’s shown promise in his work and is likely to represent value.

Race 4: INCA MAN (5)
Trainer: Paul Cole
Jockey: Rossa Ryan

Previous experience counts for a lot in this type of race and that’s why I’m siding with INCA MAN who looks to be getting better with racing. He stated on to do all his best work at then finish when second to Revester over this mile last month and is ready to go one better.

Catterick Best Bets

Race 2: COMEATCHOO (6)
Trainer: Tim Easterby
Jockey: David Allan

The blinkered COMEATCHOO ran better than his finishing position indicates at Ripon last month and, with his stable in blistering form, is worth siding with to upstage some more obvious contenders for this nursery. He’s finished behind the likes of Lara Silvia and Shepherds Way but on revised terms can turn the tables with both.

Race 3: INCOGNITO (8)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: James Sullivan

INCOGNITO probably went for home too soon at Chelmsford and while that latest run is good enough to put her in with a strong claim, her overall profile is of a filly that should have won by now. She needs to recapture the form shown in a Newmarket maiden and another at Goodwood, and with a new jockey who is very effective at this course together with a good draw she can finally break her duck.

Leicester Best Bets

Race 1: EARL OF HARROW (5)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Andrea Atzeni

Taking a step up the ladder but with conditions in his favour, EARL OF HARROW can make this a fourth triumph from his last five outings. Those three wins came at Class 5 level but he’s fully earned the chance to show what he’s made of, having been denied a good opportunity to the abandonment of Haydock at the end of last month. He’s done well physically, and can state his case as an improving stayer to follow.

Race 6: QUIRKY GERTIE (1)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Andrea Atzeni

QUIRKY GERTIE is going to love this deep ground and gets the vote to make up for a narrow defeat at Hamilton in a race where she looked all over the winner until the final 50 metres. Her previous efforts at five furlongs suggested she wanted six, and if getting settled into a rhythm will be hard to beat here.

Chelmsford Best Bets

Race 1: SERIOUS JOCKIN (4)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: George Bass

On ratings SERIOUS JOCKIN has a mountain to climb with a couple of his winning rivals but he’s not in here for the fun of it and has an apprentice that knows him well taking 7lb off his back. The combination bring selling plate form to the table but the way they made a big move before failing to get to Isobar Wind indicates there’s more in the locker.

Race 7: WATERPROOF  (13)
Trainer: Shaun Keightley
Jockey: Josephine Gordon

An attacking display is predicted for WATERPROOF who made a good fist of trying to go gate to wire over a longer trip on the Kempton Poly, only to run out of puff in the final furlong. That was easily the selection’s best run to date, and if building on it can lead throughout this weak mile and a quarter handicap.
