BLUE LABEL is obviously tough as nails as he raced twice inside two days recently and was seen making eye-catching late headway despite appearing out of it in the home straight at Turffontein over seven furlongs on April Fool’s Day. The Oracy gelding certainly enjoyed being equipped with blinkers and the effort clearly indicated that he is searching for further. His conditioner has obliged and the top selection looks set to make further improvement.

The three-year-old HAMAAN made the expected improvement after being rested and gelded. The inmate from the Tarry yard weakened late in a listed feature over this distance recently but would have come on with that run and can get his career firmly back on track today. He meets an ordinary bunch of older handicappers and can show his class despite the hefty burden.
Race 8: DON CHRISTO(3)
DON CHRISTO kept his cracking recent form when he fought back hard to outdo his stablemate Vulcan over further on this track a fortnight ago. He was rather surprisingly raised just three pounds for his exertions and the son of Kahal is even better over this sprint distance. He meets a similar field and will again enjoy the services of top jockey Gavin Lerena.

Jockey: Juan-Paul VAN DER MERVE – Trainer: Stanley FERREIRA
This is a highly competitive handicap where a serious case can be made for most of the nine entrants on display. However, the likely sedate gallop should ensure a close affair and ‘luck in running’ could decide the final outcome. The narrow first selection is the smart four-year-old KANONKOP whose fitness will be tested as he returns from a 16-week absence. The versatile chestnut gelding had an impressive last victory over a marathon distance and the runner-up Royal Honour as well as 3rd placed finisher Talbec have boosted that formline with subsequent victories. This son of Kahal has a swift turn of foot which should come into play over the final two furlongs.
