EQUESTRIS transferred her smart KZN form into this province when she registered an exciting local debut in the above-mentioned contest. She ran on strongly late despite racing wide throughout and will certainly enjoy the extra furlong which she tries for the first time. The daughter of Lateral has polytrack experience which will be crucial and she is drawn best best of all. She still has good scope for progress.

The likely strong gallop should ensure a true result in this competitive handicap where DYNASTIC POWER looks set to build on his promising last outing. The inmate from the Greeff yard stayed on well for a close 3rd behind his stablemate Our Icon (placed 4th since) over a mile on the grass recently and he will relish this extra distance. The veteran Dynasty gelding continues to steadily drop in the ratings and he should go very well if suited to this surface.

The bay mare PEACH DELIGHT was rewarded for consistency when she ran on well to defeat some decent handicappers over a mile on the grass last Friday and she has been really well placed by her smart conditioner today. The daughter of Greys Inn is best weighted on official ratings & she is no stranger to facing male rivals, having stayed on for 3rd behind OCHONCAR over this c & d in a feature in late November. She is only 0.5kg better off with the latter for that length and a half defeat but her good draw is a major plus and she can turn the tables. The latter has been moderate in his three runs subsequently and his poor draw is a real concern. Furthermore, there could be a genuine pace and he may find himself too far out of his ground.

This is an extremely difficult low-key handicap but the real value could lie with the lightweight VARISTAR despite the veteran gelding being under sufferance. The son of Var is capable on this track despite his awful course record suggesting otherwise and he hasn’t been far off in recent efforts. He will prefer racing with blinkers today and could take full advantage of his fair barrier position when the principle contenders are mostly drawn badly.
