HARTLEYFIVE attracted strong betting support when she finished 2nd best after showing pace on her debut over this c & d earlier this month but she would have come on appreciably from the experience. LITTLE SPARROW seemed badly in need of her comeback run over an extra furlong in a competitive field a fortnight ago but she will strip fitter and can bounce straight back to form over this sprint trip. The first timers should be afforded much attention in the betting market with particular reference to the de Kock and Tarry inmate’s MRS SIMPSON and AZEEZA.

MARDI GRAS’s interrupted preparations may have contributed to his below-par last feature start but the smart grey gelding is undoubtedly capable of better and he should bounce right back. He isn’t best weighted in this assessment event but the son of Oratorio is still developing his highest merit rating and he deserves huge respect. It is worth noting that he finished in front of a smart Tarry inmate over this trip in his penultimate run so the conditioner of today’s market rival, WONDERWALL could have a good line to work with.

The track specialist SAIL FOR JOY is in great form and he acquitted himself well at Turffontein in a minor feature last month. He has just over one length to find with LAKE KINNERET (0.5kg worse off) on that run but will be an entirely different proposition on this course where the galloping five-year old could enjoy an uncontested lead. The latter was carded to race five days ago so his progress there must be monitored.

KNYSNA ROSE has smart recent staying form and she briefly threatened to upstage her male counterparts in a similar event a fortnight ago. She is importantly facing her own sex here and holds strong claims with her in-form jockey retaining the ride.
