TOP BET
Race 4: ANCIENT SPIRIT(1)
Jockey: G Lerena – Trainer: Janse Van Vuuren
ANCIENT SPIRIT is plagued with issues but the lightly raced import has shown decent potential and she is still improving. That said, she was 2nd best behind subsequent winner and highly rated sort Ouro last tim out and she should continue to progress. The engaging of top jockey Gavin Lerena indicates that her conditioner will have the bay filly fit and well. The Mike de Kock yard saddles two unraced three-year old fillies with riding engagements indicating that the daughter of Var, NAWAASI is the preferred choice.
Race 5: THAT’S LIFE(2)
Jockey: G Lerena – Trainer: Janse Van Vuuren
Jockey: G Lerena – Trainer: Janse Van Vuuren
THAT’S LIFE was 2nd best behind subsequent handicap debut winner Sirtain over this c & d recently but still has room for improvement and the son of Var can go one better here. It is encouraging that the 3rd placed finisher Dan’s Empire was close-up in a decent line-up next time out.
Race 7: PAREE(3)
Jockey: R Munger – Trainer: T Zackey
PAREE is c & d suited and her recent formline was given a boost when the 3rd placed entrant Teenage Dream won her subsequent start. The smart and improving maiden winner SCHIPPERS beat two subsequent winners Eleni and Saragon last time and she has much scope for progress. She is bred to love the extra furlong.
Race 8: OH MY DARLING(7)
Jockey: A Delpech – Trainer: M De Kock
The injury plagued and lightly raced OH MY DARLING finished well in her much improved last seven furlong start in a similar field on this course three weeks ago and the daughter of Western Winter will enjoy the extra furlong.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 6: BAAHIR(8)
Jockey: K Zechner – Trainer – D Sham
Jockey: K Zechner – Trainer – D Sham
There are some quick sorts in this competitive five furlong handicap and the likely suicidal pace may harm their chances. The consistent and versatile BAAHIR will benefit from the speed though and he represents some good each/way value over what is arguably his best distance.
