The Highlanders have played 3 knockout matches in Christchurch and have never won there. The chances of them creating history are highly unlikely even though they will be boosted by the return of Ben Smith.

The Chiefs have never lost in Buenos Aires and that will make this a mouth watering encounter. The Chiefs go into this fixture with huge momentum after beating the Crusaders in Fiji and the Rebels in Melbourne. The Jaguares however have been very consistent at home this season even though they did lose to the Chiefs in the round robin stages. This is the toughest quarterfinal to call.

Hurricanes vs Bulls

The Bulls have actually got a good record in Wellington but I can’t recall ever seeing a South African team beat a New Zealand team in a knockout match in New Zealand. Bulls literally traveled from New Zealand to Johannesburg and back to New Zealand in the space of 8 days with a match against the Lions in between all of that. The travel will take its toll in the end.

Hurricanes to win by 15 points.

Brumbies vs Sharks

Sharks (+6.5)
Travel will be the demise of the Sharks. They have now traveled from South Africa to Argentina, played the Jaguares, then back to SA, played the Stormers in a grueling match, then straight to Australia in the space of 2 weeks. In the ideal world if both teams weren’t affected by travel I would’ve gone for the Sharks. Brumbies will beat a worn out Sharks outfit and it will be sad to watch.
