Highlanders vs Sharks
This is a tough one to call. The Sharks won a very close match against the Bulls last week while the Highlanders had a bye. We don’t know what to expect from the home side especially with the fact that they aren’t really star studded. This one could be a scrappy affair with the Highlanders more than likely the team that will sneak a win.
Phaka Prediction: Highlanders to win by 3 points.

Brumbies vs Rebels
The Rebels have surprisingly got a good record against the Brumbies in Canberra having won their last two matches there. What I saw last week though tells me that the Brumbies should win here but the fact that it’s two Aussie sides that know each other well means that it won’t be a runaway victory.
Phaka Prediction: Brumbies to win by 8 points.

Chiefs vs Crusaders
This is without a doubt the match of the weekend. Joe Moody and George Bridge return for the Crusaders but Richie Mo’unga is injured. Richie’s injury is massive for this encounter! Crusaders have now moved David Havili to flyhalf which I think is a mistake considering that he is up against Aaron Cruden. The ultimate question however will be if the returning Damian McKenzie will fire from the word go. I’m going for an upset here.
Phaka Prediction: Chiefs to win by 5 points.

Waratahs vs Blues
Rieko Ioane’s injury will be the difference here. The Blues winger was outstanding last week and scored two tries vs the Chiefs in a losing effort unfortunately. The Waratahs actually have a decent side on paper and I expect them to win a closely fought match.
Phaka Prediction: Waratahs to win by 5 points.

Lions vs Reds
I think the Reds are the weakest of all the Australian teams. They are up against a team that was thrashed by the Jaguares last week. Two sides that don’t instill much confidence in their ability to win big matches. Expect a scrappy match where the team that makes less mistakes will get the win.
Phaka Prediction: Lions to win by 10 points.
—
Stormers vs Bulls
This match will be closer than what many people think it will be mainly because of Morne Steyn. Even though he no longer has the dominant forwards he used to have at his disposal back in the day, he still has a very potent boot. The Stormers outfit are the strongest SA side on paper and easily dispatched of the Hurricanes last week. Injuries to Siya Kolisi and Bongi Mbonambi will definitely be a factor in their season. Still I think their depth is good enough to take care of business.
Phaka Prediction: Stormers to win by 8 points.

Jaguares vs Hurricanes
The Hurricanes will be bitterly disappointed with their performance last week and will want to rectify that against the Jaguares. I honestly don’t see anyone winning in Buenos Aires this season but this one will go down to the wire.
Phaka Prediction: Jaguares to win by 4 points.
