URC R15: Warriors summit log as SA teams bounce back

Glasgow Warriors’ 40-9 pasting of Zebre at the Sergio Lanfranchi, followed by the Stormers’ 42-12 thumping of a weakened Leinster outfit in the Cape, saw the Scottish club go top of the log with just three rounds of play remaining. That said, Franco Smith’s men face tough challenges in the forms of away matches in Pretoria and Joburg over the next fortnight, and it’s unlikely they will hang on to that position come the end of the round-robin stage.

The Hollywoodbets Sharks claimed a 32-27 win at Scarlets courtesy of a Werner Kok hat-trick in his 50th appearance for the Durban franchise, while the Bulls smacked Ospreys 61-24 at Loftus and the Lions fell to a disappointing 13-33 loss to Munster in Jozi.

Elsewhere, Ulster pushed past Benetton 38-34 in Belfast, Edinburgh won 24-7 at Cardiff and Connacht bagged a 34-27 victory at Dragons.

Mark McCall’s side are now just four-points behind leaders Northampton Saints, who were beaten 32-41 by Harlequins at The Stoop and will now be feeling the heat with just two games of the regular season left.

Meanwhile, fourth-placed Bristol Bears came back from 19-0 down with just over 15 minutes remaining to beat Leicester Tigers 21-19 at Welford Road, Sale Sharks saw off Newcastle Falcons 35-14 at Kingston Park and Exeter Chiefs earned a 38-17 victory at Gloucester.
