Absa Premiership: Gameweek 28 Preview

To the wire it goes! For the first time this season, Mamelodi Sundowns are finally level on points with Kaizer Chiefs who at some stage looked to be running away with the league. Kaizer Chiefs have ensured themselves at least a qualifying spot to the CAF Champions League. However, for the prestigious club, anything other than a league trophy would be an underachievement. They need to secure nine more points from the remaining three games to mathematically seal the title. As for Mamelodi Sundowns, they’ve picked up form at the right time and are now huge favourites to defend their crown. Can Chiefs turn things around? Let’s find out what gameweek 28 has instore for us.

Saturday 29 August

Highlands Park FC 19/10
Draw 2/1
Maritzburg United 15/10
We kick off proceedings with two sides who are in search of their first win since football returned. Both clubs have played three matches each with Highlands Park drawing all three while Maritzburg lost the first match and drew the others. I can’t separate the two teams so back a draw here.

Orlando Pirates 12/10
Draw 21/10
SuperSport United 23/10
Orlando Pirates have been struggling since the resumption of football. One of the main reasons for all the struggles is the lack of firepower upfront – the Buccaneers have score two goals in their last seven league matches.

SuperSport United have an outside chance of finishing in the top two provided Chiefs or Sundowns lose two of their next three. The last time these sides met SuperSport were 3-0 winners and one wouldn’t be surprised if that happens again considering the form Pirates are in. As for me, I’ll back a stalemate in this one.

AmaZulu 16/10
Draw 2/1
Black Leopards 17/10
Apart from the games involving the two log-leaders this is definitely the game of the weekend. Only one point separate these two sides at the bottom of the table and a winner here will surely be safe from automatic relegation.

Black Leopards have been absolutely incredible in this bio bubble and they are beaming with confidence at the moment. Whatever Mongezi Bobe is doing should continue with it because it’s definitely working. Leopards know how difficult it is to gain promotion in the NFD especially with this under 23 rule so they will fight with everything they have. Back Black Leopards to win this game convincingly.

Golden Arrows 22/10
Draw 39/20
Cape Town City 13/10

Golden Arrows have been nothing but poor in this bio bubble they haven’t been the team that we know them to be. On the other hand, Cape Town City have been absolutely fantastic and I wouldn’t be surprised if Jan Olde Riekerink wins Coach of the Month for August. Cape Town City are my banker bet and should be included in all multiples.

Bloem Celtic 1/1
Draw 22/10
Polokwane City 28/10
Bloem Celtic have been playing some exciting football and they keep getting better each game which is positive signs going into the Nedbank Cup Final. Polokwane City are rooted to the foot of the table and are desperate for points.

The fact that Leopards and AmaZulu played each other will mean that one team will definitely drop points so this grants the Limpopo outfit an opportunity to make ground. I can’t see Polokwane City getting anything against this Bloem Celtic team.

Bidvest Wits 33/20
Draw 21/10
Kaizer Chiefs 33/20
Kaizer Chiefs have picked up one point in their last three games but they are still top of the table and that should tell you how much of a chance they had and what a massive opportunity they’ve squandered. The task sounds simple for Amakhosi, win your three games and you will be champions. It definitely won’t be as easy as it sounds with teams like Wits, Chippa United and Baroka all fighting for something so it will be extremely difficult for Chiefs. The good news is that Chiefs’ best player Samir Nurkovic will be will be available for selection in this game. This will be a tight game and the fact that it’s played at the FNB Stadium could be slight motivation for the visitors. With everything to play for, back Kaizer Chiefs to grind a result here and push Sundowns all the way.

MamelodiSundowns 4/10
Draw 3/1
Baroka 8/1
Mamelodi Sundowns have picked up form at the right time winning their last two matches and collecting a total of seven points in their last three matches. Masandawana are now level on points with Kaizer Chiefs and they know winning all their matches could be enough for them to defend their title.

Pitso Mosimane is very experienced and will tell the players not to be over excited as they haven’t achieve anything just yet even though they are a few matches away in completing what looked Impossible at some stage. Baroka will be no push overs and we saw them drawing with Orlando Pirates in this bio bubble which should be proof that this team can’t be over looked. Back Mamelodi Sundowns to win this game convincingly and include them in all multiples.

TREBLE @ 7/1
Mamelodi Sundowns Win 4/10
Bloem Celtic Win 1/1
Black Leopards 17/10

Midweek Double Tipped @ 3/1
Maritzburg vs Wits Draw @ 33/20
Mamelodi Sundowns vs Arrows Home Win @ 13/20
