Match Report

Bayern were in the ascendancy in the opening minutes of the game and came close in the early stages through Arturo Vidal. After David Alaba picked out a good cross in the second minute, the Chile star headed wide of the post.

The visitors were pouring forward and in the 10th minute Alaba went close with a strike which Erkan Zengin did well to save in the bottom corner. Thomas Muller then fired over the bar from close range on the rebound.

However, the away outfit hit the front in the 18th minute when Thiago scored the opener. Following good work from Muller on the right, the German international’s cross picked out the Spain star who guided a left-footed strike into the net from close range.

Ricardo Quaresma had a chance just before the break from a free-kick after Love was brought down outside the area by Mats Hummels. Yet, the Portugal winger curled an effort wide with Sven Ulreich showing little concern.

After the interval, the visitors continued their dominance as Gonul scored an own goal after good work from Franck Ribery.

The French winger burst down the wing and played in a pass to right-back Rafinha who saw his cross fumbled by Zengin, which Gonul subsequently sliced into his own net in the 46th minute.

Just before the hour mark the hosts restored some pride as Love tucked home after Alaba lost possession to Gonul. The full-back picked out the Brazilian striker and he fired home into the bottom corner despite a desperate lunging tackle from Vidal.

Not long afterwards, Oguzhan Ozyakup found Mustafa Pektemek at the near post but under pressure from Rafinha his effort went wide of the post courtesy of a deflection.

Bayern were in cruise control in the second stanza with the result secured although James Rodriguez did go close in the 76th minute as the Colombia star curled an effort just wide following an enterprising run.

With that said, Wagner completed the rout in the 84th minute as he chested home after good inter-play from Rodriguez and Alaba.
