The promoted side have lost their opening eight games and head coach Shaun Bartlett, with Sean Connor having taking the reins on an interim basis.

The new man at the helm oversaw a 2-1 loss to SuperSport United in the league and a 2-0 loss to Pirates in the Carling Knockout Cup in their previous game a week and a half ago.

Since then, Bucs, who are in 13th place on the standings with two wins from seven, have drawn with both AmaZulu and Polokwane City.

Ahead of the midweek clash, Spurs midfielder Michael Morton called on his side to put on a top performance after judging themselves against Bucs in the recent loss.

He told the Sowetan: “We’ve been working very hard behind the scenes. Obviously we had a bit more time to prepare than Pirates because they’ve played a couple of games since we played them in the cup [the Carling Knockout]. Hopefully we’ll have fresher legs than them and be able to dominate them.

“The belief is there, especially because in our last three league games we were leading before we ended up losing. That shows that we can win games if we can work a little bit harder and not lose focus through the games.”

Pirates coach Jose Riveiro, meanwhile, insists he isn’t worried by his side’s form.

He explained: “I cannot be concerned with the points. I can be concerned with something that we are not doing well and we need to correct it during the week.

“We have to give the supporters hope by producing better performance. It is simple.”
