Bafana Bafana have become a team that qualifies for major tournaments sporadically. They need positive results against Benin and Rwanda as they kick off a bid to play in the Fifa World Cup for the first time since 2010.

They come into these qualifiers on a good run of form. Unbeaten in their last five games, which includes a victory over World Cup semi-finalists Morocco and a draw against African heavyweights Côte d’Ivoire, have their former captain Aaron Mokoena believing that they are on an upward trajectory.

Percy Tau recently revealed how the success of other sporting codes is contributing to lifting spirits in camp.

“I think everything rubs off on the guys, and you can see at training, whenever anyone scores, there’s celebration because they want to win. So, I think that’s something new with our national team,” he explained.

“We are all trying to chase success. We see it in other sports that it’s possible for South Africa to get success, so we also want to follow that.”
