Calls for the extremely talented young forward to be included in the Bafana setup have been gaining momentum over the past few months, thanks to Mofokeng’s splendid displays in the DStv Premiership.

Many football enthusiasts called for the 19-year-old to be part of the South African squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Ivory Coast between January and February.

But Broos stuck with his tried and tested troops ahead of impressively clinching a bronze medal finish.

After overlooking the youngster again for the Fifa Series against Andorra and Algeria, Broos explained he has been keeping a close eye on Mofokeng.

“I’ve had a look at him, if you are talking about the Mofokeng of Orlando Pirates, he is a very interesting player,” Broos recently told the media in Johannesburg.

“He is a very young player also. So, we will see if he can keep his position at Orlando Pirates. If he does, that’s okay, maybe there will come a moment when we call him to Bafana.”

Mofokeng’s talent drew international attention when in October he spent time training with England’s Wolverhampton Wanderers after being invited for trials.

“He is very good, and this is very good that we detect those players and follow the progress of those players and at the right moment we will call him. You can be sure of that,” Broos said.

The Africa edition of the Fifa Series takes place in Algeria.

Bafana will play their first game against 164th-ranked Andorra at the 19 May 1956 Stadium on Thursday at 23:00, SA time.

Bafana will face off with host Algeria at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers on Tuesday, 23:00 before returning home on the next day.
