The two African powerhouses find themselves in the fourth and final round of the Olympic Games qualifiers.

Only one of the two nations will participate in this year’s edition in Paris, France.

South Africa are aiming to get the better of Nigeria in a two-legged qualifying clash to book their place at the sporting showpiece set for July and August.

The first leg tie takes place in Nigeria where both sides will be targeting a positive start at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Friday at 17:00 (SA time).

Banyana midfielder Amogelang Motau said the preparations for the opening leg have gone well and they are ready to do business on the pitch.

“We started training with the local-based players back at home, preparing for what is to come this side. And I think since we have been in Nigeria the spirit has been great in the team,” Motau said.

“We have been here for a couple of days, and we’ve got a chance to acclimatize, and I think we’ve gotten used to the weather this side.

“This team has grown in leaps and bounds and I would love to be part of the team that will go to the Olympics. I think it will be a great opportunity, especially for local-based players to showcase their talent.

“There’s a lot of talent in SA and platforms like the Olympics are crucial for us to showcase that talent.”

Motau said the arrival of Banyana’s overseas-based stars in camp has been a massive boost for the national team.

“It goes without saying that some of the overseas-based players are also veterans of the team. So, it’s always good to have them in the camp, giving us advice and letting us know what to expect in the coming games,” she said.

“It’s always great having them there because they add so much experience to the team.”
