Italian Serie A: Week 2 Preview

Soccer Player About to Strike the Ball

What a start to the 2019/20 Italian Serie A campaign! Yours truly started on the front foot, firing nine out of 10 tips with only Roma failing to give me a full house!

There are a few eye-catching matches to look forward to this weekend with money to be made. Let’s get to it!

Friday 30 August

Bologna 17/20
Draw 49/20
SPAL 34/10

Bologna would have been fairly happy to start the new season with a point away from home. However, there were a number of chances for them to bag all three points during their 1-1 draw at Hellas Verona.

SPAL suffered a 3-2 home defeat Atalanta and will be looking to improve on that. Their pre-season was successful with three wins from four games. The last three matches between these sides have proved to be less than entertaining. Follow the trend and take Under 2.5 Goals at 7/10.

Saturday 31 August

AC Milan 9/20
Draw 33/10
Brescia 6/1

AC Milan fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Udinese in the opening round, while this week’s opponents upset the applecart with a 1-0 victory at Cagliari. The newcomers will be high on confidence coming into this match but face a team who are hungry to get over last weekend’s performance.

The Rossoneri are strong on home soil and are expected to dominate proceedings from the get-go. Back AC Milan on the (-1) Handicap at 12/10!

Juventus 9/10
Draw 24/10
Napoli 31/10

Title-contenders Juventus and Napoli will square off in what promises to be a riveting clash. The defending champions got the ball rolling with a 1-0 win at Parma last weekend, while the Azzurri outscored SPAL 3-2 in an epic five-goal thriller.

The Old Lady has won three of the last four meetings between the sides. Take Juventus to claim a narrow and hard-fought win.

Sunday 1 September

Lazio 23/20
Draw 26/10
Roma 43/20

Lazio and Roma will reignite their rivalry on Sunday evening. The two share the same city and home ground which always leads to a cagey but entertaining contest. Lazio started the 2019/20 season with a brilliant 3-0 victory at Sampdoria, while like I mentioned previously, Roma were the only team to let me down after being held to a 3-3 draw against Genoa.

With that being said, I’m going against them this weekend. Not out of spite but the Eagles were just leaps and bounds better in terms of performance last time out. Lazio are tipped for the win.

Genoa 31/20
Draw 24/10
Fiorentina 17/10

Genoa earned an impressive 3-3 draw at Roma last weekend and can take plenty from that coming into this fixture. Fiorentina lost 4-3 at home to Napoli in a crazy seven goal thriller and will look to pick themselves up and put in another brave effort.

While there was loads of goals from both respective teams’ matchups last time out, I’m expecting them to be much more defensive. Both meetings ended goalless between them last term and I’m going for the Under 2.5 Goals market at even money.

Udinese 21/20
Draw 23/10
Parma 11/4

Udinese will be on cloud nine after grinding out an impressive 1-0 win over AC Milan in round one. Parma were on the opposite end of that scoreline but can give themselves a pat on the back after restricting Juventus to just one goal.

The hosts are expected to play more freely with more aggression, while Parma are expected to give it a go as well. The Both Teams to Score – Yes – market should be taken at 9/10.

Atalanta 6/10
Draw 3/1
Torino 17/4

Atalanta fought their way to a 3-2 victory over SPAL last time out and will be looking to make it two from two on Sunday. Torino were just as good after edging Sassuolo 2-1 but their away form might just be a worry here.

With that being said, I’m expecting a much more solid performance from both teams. However, Atalanta are tipped to capitalize on home advantage.

Lecce 17/20
Draw 51/20
Hellas Verona 31/10

Round one of the 2019/20 season was an eye-opener for Lecce after being smashed 4-0 at Inter Milan. Hellas Verona did what was expected of them after playing to a dull 1-1 home draw against Bologna.

I doubt most would expect a goal fest between the two on Sunday and neither do I. The Totals – Under 2.5 Goals – market is on the cards at 8/10.

Cagliari 17/4
Draw 28/10
Inter Milan 13/20

Cagliari were humiliated in their opening match, going down 1-0 on home soil against newly-promoted Brescia. Inter Milan, on the other hand, savagely beat Lecce 4-0 to make their mark and make their title-intensions known.

The Nerazzurri have won four of the last five meetings against Cagliari and look good value for a win here. The away win looks well worth a punt.

Sassuolo 5/4
Draw 5/2
Sampdoria 2/1

Both sides suffered defeats in the opening round with Sassuolo going down 2-1 at Torino and Sampdoria being thumped 3-0 at home against Lazio.

The meetings ended in an eight-goal thriller last season with Sampdoria claiming a 5-3 victory. Take Both Teams to Score – Yes – at 6/10.

TREBLE TIPPED @ 6/1
AC Milan (-1) Handicap 12/10
Juventus Win 9/10
Inter Milan Win 13/20
