Italian Serie A: Week 22 Preview

Serie-A-Preview

Our Serie A tipster previews gameweek 22 of the 2016/17 Italian top-flight.

With plus minus 17 rounds of Italian Serie A football to go, the table has a familiar look about it. Juventus are where they belong – at the summit – while Roma and Napoli just behind them, keeping the pressure on the defending champions.

In the bottom half of the standings, Crotone, Palermo and Pescara occupy the relegation places, with the nearest team 11 points clear of the drop zone. So now that we all up to speed on Italy’s top tier, let’s find out what’s worth backing in this weekend’s set of fixtures!

Saturday 28 January

Lazio 11/20 | Draw 3/1 | Chievo 52/10
Gameweek 22 kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico with Lazio taking on Chievo. Gli Aquilotti have won four of their last six matches and have been excellent on their ground with eight wins from 11 games, including three on the spin.

Chievo have been poor in recent weeks with five consecutive defeats in all competitions, scoring just three goals and conceding 14 times in the process. There isn’t much to read into here, get on the home win and add to all multiples!

Inter Milan 1/5 | Draw 57/10 | Pescara 11/1
One of the most in-form teams in the Serie A, Inter Milan, will play host to bottom-of-the-log Pescara. Inter have won seven of their last eight matches, including six on the spin. The Nerazzurri have won seven of their 10 matches at home and will be eager to build on that.

Pescara have been dreadful with just one victory after 20 matches, including a winless run of 12 losses and three draws from their last 15 matches. With a lack of value on the Inter Milan victory, get on the Home-To-Win-To-Nil market at 9/10.

Sunday 29 January

Torino 13/10 | Draw 23/10 | Atalanta 2/1
Torino and Atalanta will open proceedings on Sunday with a lunch-time kick off. The hosts have been strong at home but have struggled to maintain winning form, while Atalanta have been in great form with three wins from their last four matches.

In the last six meetings between the sides, Torino have claimed four wins, Atalanta have registered one and the draw has occurred once. It’s one of those games that can go any which way, but judging by the form and consistency of the sides, Both Teams To Score – Yes – is the way to go at 7/10.

Cagliari 14/10 | Draw 9/4 | Bologna 2/1
Cagliari have been poor in recent weeks with four losses from their last six matches. However, they have won two matches on the bounce on home soil, scoring four goals in each victory. They have been excellent on their ground with seven wins from 10 games and will be determined to build on that.

Bologna have been impressive of late with three wins from their last four matches, including back-to-back victories. They have won the last four meetings against Cagliari, scoring nine goals and conceding just once. The host can’t keep depending on their home form to bail them out. Back Bologna on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 11/20.

Crotone 29/20 | Draw 2/1 | Empoli 2/1
Relegation-bound Crotone have been dismal with three losses from their last four games. They have managed only two victories from 20 matches, with both wins coming at home. The Pitagorici are unbeaten in the last nine meetings on their turf against Empoli, winning five and drawing four times – all nine of those encounters saw both sides find the back of the net.

Empoli have won three of their last five matches but all three of those victories came on home soil. The Azzurri have travelled poorly with just one win from 10 games, scoring five goals. Nonetheless, they are in better form than their opponents. Take Both Teams To Score – Yes – at 19/20.

Fiorentina 13/20 | Draw 28/10 | Genoa 17/4
Fiorentina are unbeaten on their ground with five wins and five draws from 10 matches. The Viola have been won back-to-back games, scoring five goals and conceding just once. They are unbeaten in the last 11 meetings on home soil against Genoa dating back to the 1994/95 season.

Genoa are without a victory in their last five matches, including four defeats and a stalemate last time out. The Rossoblu have travelled poorly with seven losses from 10 matches, scoring seven goals and conceding 18 times. The home win is on the cards.

Sampdoria 7/2 | Draw 28/10 | Roma 15/20
An out of sorts Sampdoria will clash with a red-hot Roma on Sunday afternoon. The Blucerchiati have been fairly decent on home soil but their current form leaves a lot to be desired. They are winless in their last six, including four defeats and that doesn’t look like improving here.

Roma have been in top form with seven wins from their last eight matches, including four in a row. La Maggica have won the last three meetings against their opponents and are tipped to come away with maximum points here.

Sassuolo 11/2 | Draw 32/10 | Juventus 5/10
Next up, Sassuolo will take on the defending champions and table-toppers Juventus. The Neroverdi will be desperate to capitalize on home advantage and build on their run on two consecutive victories.

Juventus have been outstanding with six wins from their last eight matches but their lack of consistency on the road has cost them at times this season. A cagey affair is expected with Sassuolo tipped on the (+1) Handicap at 15/10.

Udinese 21/10 | Draw 9/4 | AC Milan 27/20
Udinese and AC Milan will square off in the penultimate match of the week. The hosts have been poor in recent weeks with three losses on the trot, whilst AC Milan have been inconsistent in recent weeks.

AC Milan will be eager to get their season back on track and keep gunning for the European places. However, Udinese can take solace in the fact that they a better record in recent times against the Rossoneri, including a 1-0 victory in the reverse tie. Both teams will be up for the win here, making the Totals – Over 2.5 Goals – market a decent wager at even money.

Napoli 1/8 | Draw 15/2 | Palermo 17/1
Last but not least, Napoli will take on relegation-threatened Palermo at the Stadio San Paolo. The home side are unbeaten in their last 14 matches in all competitions. They have won their last four consecutive home games and will be keen to build on that.

Palermo have been terrible with just two wins from 21 matches, scoring 17 goals and conceding 41 times. The Rosanero have been dreadful with three losses on the spin and that form looks set to continue. Back Napoli to win on the Matchbet and Both Teams To Score – No – at 13/20.
