Italian Serie A: Week 25 Preview

Serie-A-Preview

Our Serie A tipster previews gameweek 25 of the 2016/17 Italian top-flight.

With only 14 rounds of Serie A football to go, Juventus look out of sight. Don’t get me wrong, a seven-point lead can be lost in that space of time but the Old Lady are looking determined to defend their title as champions of Italy.

On the other end of the table, Palermo, Crotone and Pescara occupy the relegation zone. It will take an outstanding string of results for either of those teams to claw their way out of the drop zone but my fingers are crossed that any of the above three times can turn up for the final games of the season. Last weekend, yours truly tipped eight of the 10 Serie A clashes correctly and I’m feeling confident in my picks for week 25! So, let’s quit the chit chat and get stuck in!

Friday 17 February

Juventus 2/13 | Draw 6/1 | Palermo 15/1
Juventus extended their winning streak to five matches last time out with a routine 2-0 victory away to Cagliari. The Old Lady will return to the Juventus Stadium where they have been immaculate, winning all 12 home games, scoring 30 goals and conceding just six times.

Relegation-bound Palermo fell to a disappointing 2-1 home defeat against Atalanta on Sunday – making it 10 losses from 12 games. Their record on the road is better, but nothing to brag about either. Juve have won the last nine meetings against Palermo, scoring 18 goals without conceding. Get on the Home To Win To Nil market at 13/20!

Saturday 18 February

Atalanta 3/10 | Draw 17/4 | Crotone 9/1
Atalanta will welcome relegation-threatened Crotone to the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia on Saturday evening. The home side have been one of the surprise packages this season and are now placed fourth on the table. La Dea have won five of their last seven matches, while their home record of eight victories from 11 games is quite impressive as well.

Crotone are winless on their travels with 10 losses from 12 matches, scoring seven goals and conceding 23 times. Pitagorici have lost six of their last eight games, including three on the spin without scoring.

I’m in search of value here and at 3/10, Atalanta just don’t do it for me. Crotone will put up a solid fight, but the home victory seems inevitable. The First Half – Matchbet + Totals market of Under 1.5 Goals and a home win at 7/4 catches my eye. Get on!

Empoli 36/10 | Draw 26/10 | Lazio 15/20
Saturday’s final match-up sees Empoli take on Lazio. The home side are winless in their last three matches, including a hard-fought 2-0 defeat at the hands of Inter Milan at the San Siro Stadium last time out.

Lazio have lacked consistency in recent weeks but have a great opportunity to find their feet against a struggling Empoli side. However, the Azzurri have won the last three meetings at home against Lazio and will look to build on that. The home win should be taken on the win/draw Double Chance at even money.

Sunday 19 February

Bologna 34/10 | Draw 49/20 | Inter Milan 8/10
An out of sorts Bologna side will come up against high-flying Inter Milan in a lunch-time kick off on Sunday afternoon. The home side have lost three consecutive matches, scoring just twice and conceding 11 times.

Inter Milan have been in top form with an impressive eight wins from their last nine matches. They are unbeaten against Bologna in the last six meetings and should do enough to come away with maximum points here. The away win is tipped.

Pescara 24/10 | Draw 49/20 | Genoa 21/20
Basement-dwellers Pescara have registered just nine points from 24 matches, scoring 22 goals and conceding a colossal 55 times. They are without a home win this season and find themselves on a terrible run of six straight defeats.

Genoa have been in dismal form themselves with six losses from their last eight matches, including two draws. With both sides in desperate need of a win, I’m expecting an end-to-end game of attacking football. Pescara’s last six meetings have seen Over 2.5 Goals. I suggest you follow the trend at 15/20! For the brave, I will be on the First Half – Both Teams To Score market at 11/4.

Sampdoria 7/10 | Draw 28/10 | Cagliari 36/10
Sampdoria have been in top form in recent weeks with three wins on the trot. Their opponents, Cagliari, have lost three of their last four games, including consecutive defeats and have travelled poorly with 10 losses from 12 matches, scoring seven goals and conceding 27 times.

Sampdoria have won the last three meetings at home in all competitions against Cagliari, scoring six goals without conceding. Back Doria to make it four in a row.

Chievo 11/2 | Draw 33/10 | Napoli 9/20
Chievo stretched their unbeaten run to three matches last time out with a 3-1 victory away to 10-man Sassuolo. However, they have been inconsistent on their ground and will need to be at their best to get something out of Napoli.

Partenopei are unbeaten in their last 18 matches in all competitions and will be determined to maintain that form. They have a terrific record against Chievo and are well worth a punt to claim all three points. Back Napoli to get the win.

Udinese 23/20 | Draw 9/4 | Sassuolo 47/20
Udinese will be looking to return to winning ways after suffering a 3-0 hammering at Fiorentina last weekend – their fourth defeat in six matches. Sassuolo will also be licking their wounds after their disappointing 3-1 home defeat against Chievo.

Both teams will fancy their chances at bagging all three points here. The Neroverdi have found the back of the net in their last 19 away games in all competitions and should manage to do so yet again. Both Teams To Score is tipped at 15/20.

Roma 9/20 | Draw 34/10 | Torino 52/10
Roma and Torino will go toe-to-toe in the penultimate Serie A clash of the weekend. The home side have been in top form with six wins from their last seven matches, while they have won all 11 games on their ground, scoring 32 goals and conceding only seven times.

Torino will be looking to build on their thrilling and entertaining 5-3 home victory against Pescara last weekend. But the fact that they have lost the last seven trips to Roma doesn’t give me much confidence. The home win on the Handicap (-1) is tipped at 11/10.

AC Milan 12/10 | Draw 23/10 | Fiorentina 9/4
AC Milan and Fiorentina will wrap up gameweek 25 with an enticing encounter. The Rossoneri have managed just one win from their last six matches but will look to capitalize on home advantage.

Fiorentina have been impressive with in recent weeks with four wins from their last six games and will fancy their chances here. The reverse tie ended goalless and another tight affair is expected. Both Teams To Score looks promising at 15/20.

TREBLE TIPPED @ 4/1
Juventus Win To Nil (6/10)
Inter Milan Win (8/10)
Sampdoria Win (7/10)
