Italian Serie A: Week 9 Preview

Soccer Player About to Strike the Ball

To sum the Serie A table up, Juventus and Inter Milan continue to battle it out at the summit with just a point separating the Italian giants, while Napoli and Atalanta play catchup. On the opposite end of the table, SPAL, Genoa and Sampdoria occupy the relegation zone. Let’s find out what’s good on the betting with round nine kicking off on Friday evening.

Friday 25 October

Hellas Verona 29/20
Draw 9/4
Sassuolo 9/4

Hellas Verona showed great fighting spirit last weekend despite going down 2-0 at Napoli. Sassuolo have been dreadful with five losses from seven matches, including three defeats on the spin, while they have lost all three of their travels.

The last four meetings between these sides have produced just six goals at an average of 1.5 per game. Get on the Total – Under 2.5 – Goals market at 15/20.

Saturday 26 October

Lecce 8/1
Draw 17/4
Juventus 3/10

Lecce have managed just two wins from eight matches this season but are off the back of a hard-fought 2-2 draw at AC Milan. Juventus remain unbeaten with seven wins and one draw from eight games and will be eager to build on that.

As good as the newcomers were last time out, the defending champions are a different beast. The Old Lady are tipped to Win to Nil at 11/10.

Inter Milan 3/10
Draw 17/4
Parma 17/2

Inter Milan have been in top for with seven wins from eight matches, scoring a total of 18 goals. Parma made a rocky start to the 2019/20 season but have since turned that form around with three victories from their last four games, including a 5-1 thrashing of Genoa last weekend.

The last five meetings have been lacklustre to say the least but with both sides finding the back of the net on a regular basis, I’m expecting goals galore. Take Both Teams to Score – Yes – at 19/20.

Genoa 9/10
Draw 26/10
Brescia 28/10

Genoa have been terrible with just one win from eight games, scoring nine goals and conceding 20 times. Brescia’s last three games saw them suffer back-to-back 2-1 defeats against Juventus and Napoli, before holding Fiorentina to a goalless draw.

The Rossoblu will be looking to climb out of the drop zone when they host the new boys on the block, but Brescia have shown patience, resilience and a tremendous fighting spirit of late. Back the away team on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 17/20.

Sunday 27 October

Bologna 17/20
Draw 26/10
Sampdoria 29/10

Bologna are winless in their last five matches but put on a good showing last weekend despite falling short in a 2-1 defeat at Juventus. Basement-dwellers Sampdoria have lost six of their eight games, scoring just four goals and conceding 16 times.

Bologna have won the last three meetings against Sampdoria, scoring eight goals without shipping any. The home win looks a good bet.

Torino 8/10
Draw 26/10
Cagliari 34/10

Torino are placed mid-table after an inconsistent start to the campaign. They are winless in their last three games and will be desperate to get back to winning ways. After fighting relegation most of the 2018/19 season, Cagliari have picked up their game this time around and remain unbeaten on the road.

The away team are offering excellent value after edging Napoli 1-0, before holding Roma to a 1-1 draw in their previous trip. That said, a safer option would be Cagliari on the Handicap (+1) at 19/20.

Atalanta 9/20
Draw 34/10
Udinese 57/10

After racing to a 3-0 lead at Lazio last time out, Atalanta then threw it away in the second stanza with the Eagles fighting back to earn a 3-3 draw. Udinese remain winless on the road and are yet to find the back of the net during their travels as well.

Although the hosts would have been disappointed with their defensive display last weekend – especially second half – they are still expected to triumph. Back Atalanta to claim maximum points.

SPAL 11/2
Draw 7/2
Napoli 9/20

18th-placed SPAL have been horrific with six losses from eight matches, scoring just six goals and conceding 15 times. Napoli have lacked consistency in recent weeks but are expected to control the game and come away with all three points.

The last two meetings at Stadio Paolo Mazza between these sides have produced eight goals. Get on the Totals – Over 2.5 – Goals market at 6/10.

Roma 11/10
Draw 51/20
AC Milan 47/20

Roma have struggled to find a winning formula despite suffering just one defeat this season. They were held to a goalless draw at Sampdoria last time out and will be looking to get back on the winning track.

AC Milan weren’t any better last weekend after they could only settle for a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the San Siro Stadium against newcomers Lecce. In big games like these, form doesn’t really count for much, it just depends who is the better team on the day. I’m backing Roma to get the job done.

Fiorentina 14/10
Draw 49/20
Lazio 18/10

Last but not least, Fiorentina and Lazio will square off in what promises to be a cracking contest. The Viola have won three of their last four matches, scoring six goals and conceding once. Lazio have been struggling on the road but are always dangerous in the final third.

Seven of the last nine meetings between these sides have seen both teams find the back of the net. My money is on Both Teams to Score – Yes – at 11/20.

TREBLE TIPPED @ 4/1
Brescia Win/Draw 17/20
Bologna Win 17/20
Atalanta Win 9/20
