NEWS: Esperance coach Miguel Cardoso proud of Champions League accomplishment

A 41st-minute goal by Yan Sasse sealed a 1-0 victory for the Tunisian side at the Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi on Sunday.

The two teams clash again for the return leg at Loftus Versfeld on Friday at 20:00.

Reflecting on his side’s narrow win, Cardoso said his side stuck perfectly to their tactics to beat “one of the best teams on the continent.”

The head coach was reported by iDiski Times to have said: “We delivered a tactically interesting performance that conformed to the game plan we had previously defined. 

“It was a high-quality match between two of the best teams on the continent.

“I am extremely proud of what my players accomplished.”

Cardoso added: “We did good things but we also suffered and had difficult times. But it is in these difficult moments that we see the character of the players and their ability to apply the game plan.

“They showed great solidarity and great combativeness, and that is what gave us allowed us to achieve this victory.”
