Benni McCarthy was left bemoaning AmaZulu's 'inconsistencies' after his side's 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday.

Usuthu took the lead at the FNB Stadium through a Keagan Buchanan own-goal on 20 minutes before a 76th minute Bongi Ntuli equaliser.

The match was also marred by two sendings off, firstly to Cole Alexander on 60 minutes, before Samkelo Mgwazela saw red with five minutes of the match remaining.

The result left AmaZulu in 12th place on the DStv Premiership standings with just three wins from 12 games.

After the match, McCarthy told SuperSport: “We’ve got this inconsistency about the team at the moment that is just out of our grasp.

“As much as you try and rotate and put this player on because he trains well, come matchday you get a performance that disappoints you.

“So we try to do the best we can by playing the in-form players but there’s absolutely nothing you can do because we don’t have control over players’ performance.

“When you are constantly not performing to the levels you should, you as a coach can only take that player out. If the player you then replace him with also gives you a below-average performance, then what can you do.

“You’ll end up going through the whole squad and not having players who you can rotate.

“We try to ask players to be consistent and professional, you know this is their job and they get paid for this.”
