This is a very interesting PSL season with the so-called small teams giving the big guns a run for their money. Baroka FC returned to the top of the table after an emphatic 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs and Lamontville Golden Arrows slipped up on Saturday afternoon, only managing to equalise late in the match against Chippa United to salvage a 1-1 draw.

Friday 29 September 

Maritzburg United 0-1 Free State Stars 
Maritzburg United are now seven points off the pace after suffering a second consecutive defeat at home. They went down 1-0 to Free State Stars with Sinethemba Jantjie’s 73rd minute strike sealing the much-needed three points for the visitors.

Saturday 30 September 

Golden Arrows 1-1 Chippa United
Knox Mutizwa’s strike cancelled out Katlego Mashego’s goal to keep the hosts in the title race. They are now two points adrift of top-placed Baroka.

Ajax Cape Town 0-2 Cape Town City
Cape Town City earned the Mother City bragging rights after a commanding display against their crosstown rivals. Victor Obinna and Judas Moseamedi scored either half for Benni McCarthy’s boys.

Kaizer Chiefs 1-2 Baroka
Baroka continued their dominance over Kaizer Chiefs at Durban’s iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium, making a dramatic comeback from 1-0 down to claim a 2-1 victory. George Maluleka’s thumping hit from outside the box which went in off the post gave AmaKhosi the lead but Lewis Macha equalised midway through the first half. Former Orlando Pirates midfielder, Gift Motupa came off the bench in the second half to steal the headlines with a sumptuous goal, turning Daniel Cardoso inside out before letting fly.

Polokwane City 2-2 Orlando Pirates
The highlight of the match was Thamsanqa Gabuza’s last minute equaliser which completed his brace and drew the mighty Buccaneers level. Gabuza’s goals came either side of Rise And Shine’s by Rendani Ndou and Rodney Ramagalela.

Sunday 1 October 

Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 Bidvest Wits 
The defending champions’ woes continued as they got outdone by Bloemfontein Celtic, courtesy of a Roggert Nyundu second half goal. 

Platinum Stars 0-1 Mamelodi Sundowns 
Khama Billiat found the back of the net in the second minute to hand Mamelodi Sundowns a 1-0 victory over Dikwena.
