The South African PSL returns with some cracking encounters lined up in gameweek 24. Maritzburg United and University of Pretoria will battle it out in a relegation scramble on Saturday, while Free State Stars’ five-game unbeaten run will be tested when they travel to Orlando Stadium to take on an in-form Pirates side. On Tuesday, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Kaizer Chiefs will lock horns at the Mbombela Stadium in arguably the biggest tie of the round. Leaders Mamelodi Sundowns will be looking to return to winning ways following their shocking 3-1 defeat by Bloem Celtic last time out. The Brazilians will travel to the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Thursday to take on strugglers Polokwane City.

Saturday 9 April

Maritzburg United 1/1 | Draw 2/1 | University of Pretoria 28/10
We get things started on Saturday with the league’s bottom clubs, Maritzburg United and University of Pretoria. The Team of Choice have occupied the relegation zone for nearly the entire season and have showed little signs of clawing their way out of the predicament they find themselves in. Maritzburg were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup last weekend, losing 2-0 to Black Aces at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit. Shaun Bartlett’s University side are just a point above their opponents and three behind Jomo Cosmos. AmaTuks are yet to win an away game this season with seven defeats from 11 games played. Maritzburg have only managed one victory at home and with both teams struggling, the draw looks likely.

Orlando Pirates 17/20 | Draw 22/10 | Free State Stars 33/10
Orlando Pirates have improved heavily in recent weeks and are starting to look like a lot like their old selves. The Buccaneers have won five of their last six matches, including wins over Kaizer Chiefs and Jomo Cosmos in the Nedbank Cup. Eric Tinkler’s side have won three on the spin at Orlando Stadium, scoring eight goals while keeping three clean sheets.  Their opponents, Free State Stars, are unbeaten in five matches with four wins, including last weekend’s 1-0 win over Santos in the Nedbank Cup. A tight affair is expected and the teams to are tipped to cancel each other out.

Sunday 10 April

Bloem Celtic 11/10 | Draw 22/10 | Golden Arrows 24/10
Bloem Celtic secured a shocking 3-1 victory over league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in their last outing. Prior to that result, Phunya Sele Sele were winless in seven matches with five losses in a row. Their last home victory came at the end of January in a 2-1 win over Bidvest Wits. Since then, they’ve lost three out of four home games. Golden Arrows have been dismal with three straight defeats, without scoring a single goal in those games. The last two meetings between the sides have ended in draws which looks likely to happen again.

SuperSport United 11/10 | Draw 22/10 | Chippa United 24/10
SuperSport United come into the match with back-to-back wins over Moroka Swallows in the Nedbank Cup and Golden Arrows at the time of writing. Matsatsantsa will be hoping to extend their winning streak against Chippa United whom they have an impressive head-to-head record over. Stuart Baxter’s side are unbeaten in five of their meetings with the Chilli Boys, winning four times. Chippa are winless in four matches, including a 3-2 defeat by NFD leaders Baroka in the Nedbank Cup. Back the home win.

Tuesday 12 April (Forecast Betting)

Black Aces 22/10 | Draw 21/10 | Kaizer Chiefs 12/10
Mpumalanga Black Aces hovered around the summit in the first half of the season but have managed just three league wins in 11 fixtures since the turn of the year, with their previous two games ending in a draw and loss to University of Pretoria and Platinum Stars respectively. Amazayoni beat Maritzburg United 2-0 in the Nedbank Cup last weekend and Muhsin Ertugral will be hoping that result will boost his side’s confidence. Kaizer Chiefs have been dreadful, losing four of their last five games, followed by a goalless draw that sent them crashing out of the CAF Champions League by ASEC Mimosas, who won 1-0 on aggregate. Steve Komphela’s side have a good record against Aces, winning their previous five meetings. Chiefs are tipped to come good and secure maximum points.

Wednesday 13 April

Ajax Cape Town 17/10 | Draw 21/10 | Platinum Stars 15/10
Ajax Cape Town’s last outing saw them edge University of Pretoria 1-0 thanks to Toriq Losper’s sole strike. Prior to that result, Roger de Sa’s side were winless in five games in all competitions with four defeats. The Urban Warriors are unbeaten in their last four games in the PSL, but three have been draws. Platinum Stars were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Polokwane City, who came from behind to beat Cavin Johnson’s side 2-1 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium. Dikwena will be looking to bounce back strongly and extend their three-match winning streak. Platinum Stars won the reverse tie 3-0 and are tipped to claim the double.

Jomo Cosmos 5/2 | Draw 22/10 | Bidvest Wits 1/1
Jomo Cosmos suffered a 3-1 loss by Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup last Sunday. Jomo Sono will be hoping for an improved performance from his players. Cosmos have been disappointing this season and find themselves 14th on the table. While they’re fighting to stay in the league, Bidvest Wits are fighting to win it. Gavin Hunt’s side are four points behind leaders Sundowns with seven games remaining. The Clever Boys have won four league matches on the spin, three coming away from home. Wits come off a 6-0 thrashing of Magesi FC in the Nedbank Cup which saw Daine Klate score four times – his first professional hat-trick. The Clever Boys are in top form and should come away with maximum points.

Polokwane City 7/2 | Draw 22/10 | Mamelodi Sundowns 8/10
Polokwane City came from behind to beat 10-man Platinum Stars 2-1 after extra-time in the Nedbank Cup at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium last weekend. Goals from Edgar Manaka and Carlington Nyadombo sealed Rise and Shine’s passage into the quarterfinals for the first time in their history. Now, Polokwane will turn their attentions to the PSL, where they remain winless in six matches. Leaders Mamelodi Sundowns have been outstanding this season and boast the best attack and best defence in the league. Polokwane have failed to beat Pitso Mosimane’s side in the last four attempts with the Brazilians winning on three occasions. Take the away win and include in all multiple bets.
