DSTV PREMIERSHIP: Kaizer Chiefs to go ‘pound-for-pound’ against unbeaten Mamelodi Sundowns – Cavin Johnson

Chiefs have stuttered through a disappointing DStv Premiership campaign and before their most recent 2-1 win over SuperSport United found themselves languishing in 10th position in the standings.

That win over SuperSport was a first in five matches with Chiefs having failed to register a goal in their last four league matches.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s clash, Johnson said his side were keen to appease their fans with a much-needed win.

“The boys are showing the same mindset, effort and the will to win needed to be a Kaizer Chiefs player,” Johnson said.

“To all our fans, we know we’ve not been putting the results on the table, but we turned a little corner on Saturday.

“Please come out to watch us play, we’re going out there to put on a performance.

“It is our home game and we’re going out there against a very good team in Sundowns and a very astute technical team.

“We as Kaizer Chiefs feel we are capable of playing a good game against them and taking them on pound-for-pound.

“It is our home game, we will have more supporters than Sundowns on Thursday night. So come out and support and enjoy the game and if the football gods are on our side, then we will be the ones smiling after the game.”
