Tower Heads For The Naturena Exit

Kaizer Chiefs has confirmed the departure of defender Mulomowandau Erick Mothoho after 11 years at the club.

Affectionately known as Tower, Mathoho joined Chiefs as a 22-year-old from Bloemfontein Celtic and won himself three trophies at the Soweto outfit under Stuart Baxter.

He formed solid partnerships with Tefu Mashamaite and with Morgan Gould, delivering two league titles in three seasons. With 267 appearances for the Glamour Boys, Mathoho surely earned himself legendary status at the club.

With just one appearance in the 2022/23 season, it was clear that Tower was on his way out of the club as he was no longer in the plans of under-fire coach Arthur Zwane.

In Pretoria, Mamelodi Sundowns have agreed to part ways with Matatiele-born star Andile Jali on mutual agreement.

The Jali departure comes not a surprise after the two parties had failed to agree on the extension of his contract since January 2023.

Jali A Free Agent After Leaving Sundowns

In Pretoria, Mamelodi Sundowns have agreed to part ways with Matatiele-born star Andile Jali on mutual agreement.

The Jali departure comes not a surprise after the two parties had failed to agree on the extension of his contract since January 2023.

Jali, who had won five league titles in a row with Sundowns as well as two Nedbank Cups, a Telkom Knockout trophy and an MTN 8 titie, was a key figure in Sundowns’ dominance last season. The arrival of Bongani Zungu made matters difficult for Jali, as it limited the game time of the midfield maestro in the 2022/23 season.

With Teboho Mokoena owning the central midfield position with great performances, it became increasingly difficult for Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena to guarantee Jali game time.

There were some disciplinary issues toward the end of his stay with Sundowns allegedly owing to his lack of game time. His partner in crime, Sipho Mbule, was allowed to return to the side but this was not the case with Jali. He made a total of 142 appearances for Sundowns scoring four goals.

Both Chiefs and Sundowns are expected to announce more departures in the coming weeks as they want to bolster their squads and recover from the disappointments of the 2022/23 season.
