Chiefs, who played their previous game, a 3-2 win over Cape Town Spurs, behind closed doors due to sanctions imposed by a PSL disciplinary committee, are delighted that they will be able to perform in front of their fans again.

But what makes goalkeeper Khune even more excited is the fact that recent games between these two rival teams have produced outright winners and not draws.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game Khune said: “There was a period when there were six draws in a row, but now there have been wins in the last few matches.

“It shows the Soweto derby is going back to its roots and producing winners on the day.

“On Saturday, we are looking for a positive result that will favour us and make the Khosi Nation proud. We know we have to dig deep and work hard.”

The last three clashes between these teams have resulted in wins – two for Pirates and one for Chiefs.

Khune said playing in front of their fans again would be a major boost. “It is great that the fans will be back because they give us an extra push.

“Playing in front of empty stands made it feel like were on a training field playing a friendly, but we knew we had to win the match so that we could move up the log.

“It felt like we went back to Covid-19. The players, coming from different clubs, had to share their experiences of playing under those conditions.

“We knew that we needed a win, so that it could boost our confidence going into Saturday’s derby,” he said.
