Matsatsantsa A Pitori were brought to their knees by Kaizer Chiefs this past weekend at the Peter Mokaba Stadium where Amakhosi beat United 2-1 in the DStv Premiership.

This extended SuperSport’s winless run to double figures in the league and Hunt suggested that if he still had players like Orlando Pirates duo, Patrick Maswanganyi and Thalenthe Mbatha (on loan at Bucs), together with Mamelodi Sundowns‘ Thapleo Maseko – his side might have had better fortunes this season.

“The problem last year is that we lost three big players for us and now we’re trying to fill the team again and trying to build another team.

“If you had kept Maswanganyi and Maseko it would have been better. They have moved and eventually, it will bite you and it is biting us at this moment.

“It’s very frustrating because we’ve got young players. We had seven second team players playing so you can scream and shout but that’s the way the club is. That’s what we are trying to do… we’re learning the hard way. It is what it is,” said Hunt.

He adds: “As I’ve said before, every week we’ve got a young team and they are learning the hard way, but they will certainly come out better, that’s for sure.

“We’ve got a thin and young squad so you can have the hype at the beginning but will wear off eventually. It is important to show faith in them and keep coaching them, but physically, we are getting outmuscled in a lot of duels and that’s a problem.”

SuperSport’s next game is a visit to John Maduka’s Royal AM outfit on May Day at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
