After playing a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday Mokwena was left joyful with Shalulile’s attribute as he scored the equaliser for Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 30-year-old forward’s contribution to the Brazilians this season is poor compared to the previous campaign.

Shalulile has made 39 appearances in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership and contributed 15 goals and four assists, while last season he featured in 34 games netting 23 times with five assists across all competitions.

The Nabian skipper has not been the fan-favourite as Masandawana cliched their seventh successful league title and coach Mokwena has revealed that he won’t give up on the player.

“Peter is a very special (player) I know and I have said this before a lot of people can give up on Peter Shalulile,” said Mokwena at a post-match conference.

“But I will never give on Peter Shalulile, there is no chance.

“In fact, I will never give up on any of these players because they will never give up on me.

“I’m very proud, I’m happy for Peter, I’m happy for the group of these players, and I’m extremely grateful and I appreciate their efforts. They are an amazing group.”

Mokwena has also urged Sundowns supporters to come in numbers on Saturday when his side will be handed over their league title after the match against Cape Town City at the Loftus Verfeld Stadium.

“I hope the Sundowns supporters watched Manchester City over the weekend and how full the stadium was.

“Even though they were disappointed losing the quarter-finals of the Champions League there was a huge sense of appreciation for the fourth league title in a row.

“The special group has now delivered the seventh league title in a row.

“And for a team known as Masandawana (minwana seven) and for a special enumeration, a special trophy handover.

“My plea is that they come and honour the players and fill up Loftus.

“And give the players the celebration and the atmosphere that they deserve.

“And that they also deserve the supporters because they deserve to celebrate it.

“These moments don’t come forever and repeat themselves and stay forever.

“They got to enjoy the moment, they’ve got to enjoy the Mamelodi Sundowns supporters, they’ve got to enjoy this period given to us through the grace of God.

“And they deserve it and when you deserve it you got to celebrate it and my plea is for them to fill up Loftus so that we can have an incredible celebration and honour these players for what has been an absolutely unbelievable season for Mamelodi Sundowns,” he concluded.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
